I was browsing through bitcointalk when I noticed a new coin was being announced, called Pesetacoin.

For those unfamiliar, Pesetas used to be the official currency of Spain before they joined the Euro.

However, with the recent austerity measures in Europe, PIIGS countries (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain) have been experiencing a growing distrust of the Euro and even started to create some alternatives.

So here's a suggestion: why not create a cryptocurrency that will help these countries, and defy the Euro?

I'm not very familiar with developing cryptocurrencies, but from the few information I've gathered, it would be interesting to have some different settings than most well-known coins:

-Some alternative to Proof-of-work that is actually beneficial and more secure than just traditional mining. Maybe something that can help use the computation power for research in medical fields instead of just solving complex mathematical problems?
-A total number of coins equal to 136 000 000 or even 2x or 4x as much (that number is the rough total number of population in those 5 countries)
-A faster rate for the total amount of coins to be available, so it's a viable short term solution (Maybe 1 year?)
-A strong message of defiance against the Euro, in both the name of the coin as well as in its marketing

Thoughts?

Maybe the euro is not perfect, but it is the only thing that has avoided our governors to undervaluate every country's currency.

f we were out of the euro, the peseta would have been undervaluated, withdrawing the government a percentage of the money to every citizen.

So, maybe the euro was not so bad, at the end...

Well, my idea is not to replace the euro entirely for now, but to have an alternative growing in these countries, if there is such a demand. It would be descentralized, like most cryptocurrencies, so it would not be undervalued by direct government actions
