Dear everybody in the Bitcoin community,

I'm currently working on my Bachelor dissertation regarding the role of Bitcoins in our currency system.
To get an answer to the research question I need to interview people who already used Bitcoins in any kind of way.

If you invested in Bitcoins or if you use them as an alternative to other currencies, then I would appreciate very much if you could answer the following 9 questions below or send me your answers by mail if you prefer (djamal_benadda@web.de):

1.   How did you come across Bitcoins?

2.    Where did you heard the first time from them?

3.   What made you decide to get Bitcoins?

4.   What do you use Bitcoins for?

5.   Do you use them as a currency or as a speculation tool?

6.   If you use Bitcoins as a currency, what was the first thing you bought buy with them?

7.   What do you usually buy with Bitcoins?

8.   In your opinion what are the strengths and what are the weaknesses of Bitcoins?

9.   Do you think that Bitcoins are the future regarding our currency system?

Thank you very much for your time!!
The information you provided in this questionnaire will be handled with care and anonymous.

Interweb cash, it's cool yo.

Stress testing my hardware and security.

5.   Do you use them as a currency or as a speculation tool?

I use them chiefly to make n00bs jealous.

Pizza with alpaca socks topping

7.   What do you usually buy with Bitcoins?

Friends

8.   In your opinion what are the strengths and what are the weaknesses of Bitcoins?

Well if you want to write about bitcoins you should maybe try to spend some. Get some experience yourself.

You can also ask at your university if the would give you money for a survey, they usually have funds for that. The department for economics at my university usually pays ~0.027/hour at current rates. They have longer surveys though.

1.   How did you come across Bitcoins?

I saw a report about it in TV in early 2013 and decided to look into it.

2.    Where did you heard the first time from them?

See 1.

3.   What made you decide to get Bitcoins?

I found the concept behind them rather interesting and decided it could be a smart thing to start while things are still rather fresh.

4.   What do you use Bitcoins for?

Mostly buying games from the BTC I gather through various means (mining, faucets, adclicks, surveys).

5.   Do you use them as a currency or as a speculation tool?

Definetly as a currency.

6.   If you use Bitcoins as a currency, what was the first thing you bought buy with them?

The first thing I bought was a key for "Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm" from bitmit.com (an ebay like site that doesn't eist anymore after it was hacked).

7.   What do you usually buy with Bitcoins?

Digital Copies of Games (Steam Kes, Steam Gifts, Battle Net Keys)

8.   In your opinion what are the strengths and what are the weaknesses of Bitcoins?

The strengths in my view are the anonymity of the system aswell as the fault proof transactions provided you use it as intended. The weaknesses clearly are the time it needs to confirm transactions and the insecurity of wallets in the hands of not so tech savvy people.

9.   Do you think that Bitcoins are the future regarding our currency system?

In terms of replacing FIAT currencies in the physical world in day to day live I do not think so. I do see the potential for Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency to become a standart for electronic payment of any form, be it payment in the internet (replacing paypal), instead of EC cards/credit cards or the mere transfer of money across country borders.

Actually I had to reread your opening post after filling out the survey and finding that you have a lot of dupe question among what I found to be VERY few questions in a survey for a dissertation.

Then I saw that it is just a bachelor's thesis and not a dissertation (dissertation is what scientists write to achieve the title of Doctor in their field) and was relieved. This survey might actually slip through in a bachelor's thesis.

Especially in freshman year which can be a "What they shoulda oughta taught you in school" year rather than counting seriously to the degree. But yah 1 and 2 are practically the same question as are 4 and 5, I pitched the quality of my answers at the same level as the quality of the survey.

OP's questions are too focused on consumers' point of view. How about people who sells things for btc, or get paid for a service for btc?

I wish they would, they pay in cash, which is the next best thing. Just calculated the btc price to give an estimate what OP could consider paying Wink
