do i need to hold eth or anything to transfer ox or how does that work? can i just send zrx where ever i want if i dont have eth?

If you mean a wallet like Myetherwallet - erc-20, then you should have a certain amount on your balance sheet to pay for so-called gas. Gas is responsible for the time after which the transaction will be processed and executed. That is, in order for you to transfer your coins, you need an ETH on your balance.

it's a token base on ethereum blockchain,
so you need some ETH in your wallet before you can transfer any token.
make sure that and everything would be fine
