Facebook has come a long way since Zuck first fired up his web server in his Havard dorm room.

Now that we are 5 years into Bitcoin can we truly say that we have come as far as Facebook did in the same amount of time?

What does that mean for the next five years - where will Bitcoin be when it turns 10?

A comparison like that won't mean much.

With Facebook, there's significantly less friction to adopt a social media platform. It literally costs you nothing except a bit of time to plug in your email and hit submit.

With something like Bitcoin, there's not only a significant time investment in learning about the damn thing, but you also fall through this rabbit hole of unlearning all that you think you know about what money is. Then add a varying level of financial commitment on top of that and the uncertainty of whether or not people around you will bother to go through the same exercise you just did. I think it's fairly obvious that at some point people won't have to go through this song and dance in order to use Bitcoin, but getting there requires a lot of work on behalf of some determined sons of bitches. Congrats to all of us for putting in the time and money.

You might as well compare mySpace to bitcoin while at it.

What a meaningless thread.
