Hi, I am trying to get into the bitcoin craze but each time I research iant  seems as if everything is in another language as I am not well versed in tech lingo.

A few questions I have would be:
What is the purpose and benefits of bitcoin?
How do you obtain Bitcoin?

I already was advised to sign up for a wallet thru Blockchain, so I did but I have no idea what to do with it from there...

Hello and welcome to Bitcointalk! There are some sites/threads I think you should consider checking out: the newbie readme and also this Bitcoin guide which hopefully can answer at least some of your questions.

Purpose: Replace current useless pieces of paper. (You might know this as money)
Benefits: Instant, irreversible transactions.
Obtain: You buy them, you mine them, you scam people for them.

I already was advised to sign up for a wallet thru Blockchain, so I did but I have no idea what to do with it from there...

Purpose: Replace current useless pieces of paper. (You might know this as money)
Benefits: Instant, irreversible transactions.
Obtain: You buy them, you mine them, you scam people for them.

If you replace bitcoin with Bitcoin:

Purpose: a decent solution to a long standing problem in computer science that allows for distributed consensus via a publicly audited ledger.
Benefits: an unimaginable amount of applications, the first of which is bitcoin (currency)
Obtain: download bitcoinqt and run 24/7

I apologize if this is confusing for you, but I just want to clarify that Bitcoin (the protocol) is much more than just bitcoin (the currency). Many people don't understand this and fail to look further.
