I had 1 million of MINT on Hashrapid that I haven't cashed out after mining it and when I saw today's pump I wen there and pool owner obviously cleared my account just like that.

That was extreme, it takes many newbies to cause what happened to the alts before xmas.
Buy and hold isn't quite right; You need an entry strategy that includes lowing your average cost as the masses are selling.
Most alts just keep falling (with minor rallies), and falling, and falling....so holding a single purchase, "in every coin", doesn't get the best results.

It's not easy, the real bottom can look and feel the same as 25 false bottoms, then suddenly everything flies high at insane speeds (i.e Namecoin going from ~65 cents to over $10)

True, but with 250+ positions, any one position is almost nothing in terms of the portfolio weighting (at least going in), so why worry if I overpaid or not?

Depends on how deep your pockets are.
If over 50% are going to lose over 50% (for example), then it makes sense to slow down and buy some now and more later (multiple entry points in each coin)
Also, IMO some coins can be avoided entirely, but if you want to collect the entire set enjoy.

I think if you are a small enough player, buying some of everything, and then placing asks 2x-4x above your buy price would be profitable. Probably not massive, but there are enough pumps on Cryptsy to get hit frequently.

Ah, well, I see. HODLing works, but coins pop too. Also, I wouldt say I, personally, am confident that altcoins are set to go up. But if you believe it, that is your strategy and good luck on it
