Hey Everyone, just joined the bitcoin and mining community and wanted to introduce myself

I've been interested in bitcoin for a while and decided to finally take the plunge on a miner in order to learn the system and economy and maybe even make a little profit in the process.

I settled on a ASICminer block erupter cube from amazon for ~$400 that claims 30-38Ghs. I picked up a 520W dynex power supply from best buy for ~$60 which seems to be powering it just fine at the moment and settled on using the stratum miner proxy script off of the bitcoincz site to connect to multipool.

So far i'm just happy to have gotten it setup and running but hope to improve my efficiency over time as it's currently only showing ~85% and welcome any suggestions anyone may have. I've heard that as this unit is a ASIC system it should only be able to mine for SHA-256 related coins but my experience has been exactly the opposite, when attempting to connect to the SHA server i was unable to connect, however i can easily connect to the SCRYPT servers on the site for whatever reason.

below are some of the current readouts

lol i sure hope so, that would be embarrassing. But the cube's status page shows work going through so i'm pretty sure. The connection seems pretty inconsistent at the moment, lots of drop outs currently. i disabled idle sleep for my laptop running the proxy so i'm going to have to keep an eye on it.

I've been wanting to try to run the unit directly connected to the pool server but i guess the outdated "getwork" protocol is pretty inefficient and my attempts so far haven't yielded any results anyways.

I may try other mining programs running as proxy servers to see if it boosts efficiency and or other pools but for now i think i'm just going to gather some longer term data and see how it does.
