Hi everyone,

I'm curious why is there such a big price difference between MtGox (USD 967) and BTC-E/Bitstamps (USD 860)?

The few dollar difference between BTC-E and Bitstamps is explainable - transaction time and transaction costs, but 10% premium at MtGox is huge, and it has been like it for many days.

Thanks!

MtGox has "issues" for actually withdrawing fiat... could be part of the reason.

I track differences between the markets if you're interested in longish-term data here: https://daybittrader.com <- I use Coinbase as a baseline, but if you look at the charts you'll see it tracks pretty close to Bitstamp.

Use bitstamp price since it's the actual price you can get Bitcoin for IMO

Thanks! If getting out the cash is restricted, that's a perfect explanation.

Was this a potential reason why Mt.gox was insolvent, incentivizing users to hold bitcoins at their exchange due to a purposeful inflated price difference?
