This site is (I think) one of the biggest sites on Bitcoin, and the forums don't allow for proper site or thread searching, and they look outdated. You are a sort of face for bitcoin, this forum layout does not lend confidence in the technology. I am sure lots of people who have never looked up Bitcoins before will be researching the "politics" of the situation dealing with Mt Gox and Mark Karpeles, and not being able to search the website properly doesn't inspire confidence.
Please update!

no, its not broken, but its also not good, either. Its not good enough, at least. There are flashy spam advertisements, unmoderated scams, site security failing and users passwords getting stolen, and the search function is so bad its better to go to google.com. People who have lost a lot of money speculating on bitcoin, and everyone who had money on Mt Gox without understanding what it is will search for "Bitcoin" on google.  Then, they are brought here to these forums, and this is where they get their answers about Bitcoin.

SMF is not that bad. Previously phpbb is good alternative for vbulletin, But now many prefer SMF.
