Hello everyone, needles to say i am super new to coin mining so naturally this question might come up as rather dull to some of you, yet i need your advice. I am about to build my four r9 280x gpu mining rig, got the necessary x2 750w psu units which were pretty much dead simple to pick for this rig, yet i am a bit dismayed when it comes to picking the riser cables. Besides the issue of powered and unpowered riser cables, in this case having at least two powered and two unpowered riser cables, i am also curious as to weather i should watch out for compatibility issues regarding my r9 280x gpu units. Can i go wring and pick a riser cable that simply "wont fit" into the gpu units ? Are there some other features of both products i should watch out for which dictates the type of the other, or i should just go with whatever is cheapest ?

I am sure there are people here that can shoot the answer out of their sleeves, so by all means, go ahead gentlemen Cheesy

they will all fit. There's x1 -> x16 and x16 -> x16. The x16 -> x16 are the 'normal' They have the long connector on both ends. The x1 has the small connector on 1 side so you can put it in the smaller slot on your mobo. I suggest you buy these powered. Use like 2 or 3x powered risers so that your mobo can handle the rest. I used my x16x16 risers unpowered, and the smaller ones powered.

As for quality, cheaper ones are mostly crappy ones from china. Sometimes pins get loose and you have to solder them yourself again. If you can, it's not really a problem.

Popular risers right now are usb risers, because they are much longer and don't have that crappy quality problem thing.

Everything is pretty basic, just buy some powered and unpowered and you're good to go. They will all fit into your gpu's, there's not really a compatibility issue.

Awesome reply, just what i needed. How about cooling guys? In theory a refrigerator is the cheapest solution when it comes to power consumption, of course there is the problem with space limitations and air humidity... Does any of you even thought of this stupidly effective idea and tried to play around it ? You know how they say, if it is stupid but it works, then it ain't stupid.
