If there is one site that could make use of this it is: http://thepiratebay.se/. Ironically they accept BTC and LTC but not NMC! If ThePirateBay does not go for NMC, who will?

SMH why firefox!!!!!! - That's like the equivalent of using a MAC instead of Linux or a PC I love how people can build a world-changing thing, work their butt of on it, for free, for a long time, and some people's first comment is basically, "THIS ISN'T HOW I WOULD HAVE DONE IT! MAKE IT BETTER! NOW!!!!!!" That's like if you spent all your spare time and money hand crafting a house, let strangers come live in for free, and one of them said "I HATE BLUE HOUSES! BUILD ME A RED HOUSE!" Also, read the Indiegogo campaign. Basically when we get funding, we're doing a LOT of improvements, including, but not limited to, adopting it to other browsers AND other operating systems. And the reason we did it first on Firefox was because of adoption, because it's easier to access the API and work with it, and we had to start SOMEWHERE. Besides, at this point, Chrome is more or less an NSA Virus. FreeSpeechMe is the first really usable iteration of Dot-Bit through Namecoin. And we're in BETA. This is literally going to take the Internet out of the hands of governments. This is going to change how the Internet RUNS....and you're saying "FAIL!" AND, the source code is Free Software... GNU license. YOU make a version for other browsers. I know I'm a new guy on this board, but I'm not new to everything we're talking about. So I'll say it anyway: Have a little more faith, or get out of the way. MWD

SMH why firefox!!!!!! - That's like the equivalent of using a MAC instead of Linux or a PC Below is our list of planned improvements. What we can get done is largely based on the amount of funding we get from Indiegogo campaign, and in BTC and NMC. I've only listed the items, without their description, for brevity's sake, to meet the character count for a post on here. Why would anybody need to accept namecoins? Namecoin's success depends on people wanting to store public key-value pairs in its distributed dictionary, not from people using it as a medium of exchange. Adoption of this plugin increases the visibility of the dictionary which will cause more people to want to store references in it.

True, but one would expect at least ThePirateBay to be using NMC to register a .bit domain. The development of this Plug-in is an excellent development; however I must say that the demand for the NMC project is to a large degree driven by the MPAA getting some variant of SOPA through the US Congress. If the MPAA fails as they did in 2012 then interest in the NMC project will drop.

Agreed, but I don't feel that's such a bad thing. Distributed dictionaries are far too cool to disappear completely and, as a result, people are now much better prepared to react to future attacks on DNS. We are the libertarian-borg. We will share information. Oppression is futile.

^THIS. (Though FreeSpeechMe does take Namecoin in donations, only place that does as far as I know, other than the Namecoin Project. But not to cash in, but rather "to use as the cement in the new roads on the Information Superhighway." We are the libertarian-borg.

1. Governments will NEVER drop attempts to censor, no matter what acronym it's snuck through the back door with. SOPA already "failed", so the US is going to the UN for this stuff. And even without SOPA.... The DOJ, DOC, FBI, ICE, etc. seize domains ALL DAY EVERY DAY. In all nations. Through international treaties. And look what happened in Turkey last week. Dot-Bit would have prevented that. 2. Even if we achieved worldwide LibPar (libertarian paradise) tomorrow, Dot-Bit is far more secure against HTTPS and DNS hijacking (which could still be done by individuals in the absence of government) than centrally controlled domains. (Dot-Com and the rest.) Dot-Bit has advantages that go far beyond preventing censorship. It's what the Web should have been built on from the start, but Satoshi / Appamato / The Namecoin Team / Jeremy Rand were just little kids then. (I'm assuming about Satoshi, but the rest were.) If Obama really wanted to "protect the Internet" (which is how the pass all the tyranny), he'd encourage everyone to switch to Dot-Bit. The government will never do that. And will quietly do quite the opposite. MWD

Take a look at this https://forum.suprbay.org/Thread-How-The-Pirate-Bay-Plans-to-Beat-Censorship-For-Good in particular Another important change is that the new software will not use standard domain names. Instead, it will use its own fake DNS system that will link the site’s name to a unique and verified public key. For example, within the application bt://mysite.p2p/ will load 929548249111abadfjab29347282374.p2p.
“Site owners will be able to register their own names, which will serve as an alias for the curve25519 pub-key that will identify the site,” the Pirate Bay insider notes.
“The “domain” registrations will be Bitcoin authenticated, on a first come first served basis. After a year the name will expire unless it’s re-verified.” Are they actually going to be using NMC or reinventing Namecoin on top of Bitcoin? If it is the latter then ThePirateBay could either deliberately on inadvertently kill Namecoin.

You seem to keep returning (on this thread and others) to this idea of "If something isn't the dominant force in a particular field, it has been killed." Things can have small or large adoption and continue to be used. Jazz music is not as popular as rock music, but that didn't "kill" jazz. Norwegian Black Metal is not as popular as Jazz, but to some people, Norwegian Black Metal is the ONLY music they'll ever listen to. Same is true of hardcore punk, and all the other sub-genres of punk. It's like Ian MacKaye said about Dischord Records. "We aren't a failure because other labels sell more records. Some people REALLY like our records. It's like how a neighborhood bakery that makes really good bread for that neighborhood isn't a failure if they don't expand and open other stores." PirateBay cannot "kill" Namecoin. PirateBay can do what they want. It won't stop other people from using Dot-Bit. And if Namecoin is spun off into something else and EVERYONE thinks the new thing is better, Namecoin hasn't been killed, it has been evolved. Namecoin isn't even a currency. It could still succeed as a DNS registrar if the price dropped to five cents per coin. In fact, it's the only crypto coin that is NO threat to BTC. It is a COMPLEMENT to BTC. The real killer app wouldn't be PirateBay using Namecoin DNS. The real killer app would be a BTC-only gambling site using Namecoin DNS. The real killer app here isn't PirateBay, Namecoin, Dot-Bit, FreeSpeechMe or even Bitcoin. The killer app here is the Blockchain, which came from Bitcoin. Davi Barker said it REALLY well on his "Bitcoin Not Bombs" article about FreeSpeechMe: "While regulators scramble to deal with Bitcoin as a currency, the altcoins march on. They don’t realize that the advent of Bitcoin was not the launch of one digital currency, or even ten. It was the launch of a completely new technology. The blockchain was born, which is far more revolutionary than Bitcoin itself. When regulators finally comprehend that the cat is out of the bag, they will quickly discover there is a whole litter of kittens to herd. One of those kittens is Namecoin...." http://www.bitcoinnotbombs.com/freespeechme-makes-namecoin-a-game-changer/

Did you read the whole description? It's not really very relevant, and it's certainly not a competitor to Namecoin DNS/ FreeSpeechMe. PirateBay is planning to eliminate the website aspect of their site. What they're talking about would be great for serving up magnet links of torrents, but wouldn't work as well for websites . Namecoin DNS/ FreeSpeechMe still would work better for that no matter how popular PB's idea is for serving up magnet links without a central location. Also, PB put that article up a month before FreeSpeechMe came out. They may find FreeSpeechMe and adopt it. It's certainly more elegant and multi-use than a PB-only browser like they have now. And this new technology they're taking about isn't here yet, and FreeSpeechMe is. MWD
