I agree with the author of the topic, now you should be careful, and if when the hype for crypto-currencies begins again, then you should be doubly careful, since scammers will always be and they will always look for people who will show inattention.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, it's really useful, as it reminds us to be careful with suspicious emails, fake links, etc. Most probably that email was sent not by DECoin, but by scammers who pretend to be DECoin team and phishing for your passwords.

I think this will help some noobs but what still gives me concern is that many still fall for this cheap scamming method with many post and advice that no one should input their key on any site and should always check twice even if they are on their system too, I don't sign in on any link , I will rather find the handle on Twitter or group to get correct links that just any how link sent .

the steps you take are good enough. alert and also always program analysis is the main thing to always do. It looks like a hoax and now there are many ways that are done a con to get results. Phishing sites become traps most often take a lot of casualties because it is easily tempted to great results.

I received a mail from DECoin asking me to verify that i am not a robot via their website and typing a message that will show that the wallet is mine. Unfortunately for them, I only applied for the bounty(explained how they got my email address) but i didn't do any work. So, I knew immediately that it is scam. I played along and clicked on the link in the mail, a website loaded and on this website(http://MyEtherWallet-checks.space/signmsg), i am supposed to unlock my wallet to be able to verify that i'm not robot, who does that Huh I checked very well and saw that the site is like a clone of MEW.

I'm raising this issue because many like me would have gotten the message and some might not think twice before inputing their private keys. Although, i don't know if this is the norm. My question now is, can this be trusted or is it just another form of scam considering that the site is not secured?

Lastly, we really need to be careful of how we protect our wallets, so as not to get duped.

Note: I tried to reach DECoin concerning this and i haven't gotten any reply since yesterday
You are most likely dealing with a scam coins. One of the major characterisitics of coins that are not scams is their ability to be completely transparent about the things that they are doing with the project. Any project that asks you to input your private key is not a legit coin, you have to know that they want nothing but to steal your coins

You should always be careful with such projects. Try to make you own investigation and invest only in legit projects. Moreover, install an anti-virus software on your wallet and avoid visiting fishing websites and you will be safe.
