You bet! It doesn't take much to kill a Biostar board.. They are very low quality.
I had a brand new board die during setup and kill several cards with it.

Hearing yours sparked doesn't surprise me.. I see someone even had theirs catch on fire.
Fortunately I had all my GPU's diconnected from the mobo
Do you think more components can be damaged along with the mobo ? I'm thinking about the CPU and memory, I also hope the PSU's are ok
Anything attached to the motherboard could be damaged. Did you buy it from Newegg? They have a GREAT return policy. Unplug it. Remove the bios battery for 30 seconds. And then try to start it. Any lights?
Make sure your motherboard isn't touching any metal. If your motherboard isn't in a case keep wood or cardboard under it to prevent it from coming in with contact anything.
Also make sure the motherboard is completely off before adding/removing anything from it. Risers, etc. Never add/remove anything with it on.
