https://breakermag.com/these-crypto-terms-will-be-obsolete-1-to-10-years-from-now/

I think this is a load of bilge and not a single one of any of these terms will be going anywhere any time soon. The people quoted here are just showing themselves up as unworldly willies. Humans love to nurture and hang on to the stupid shit they spout.

What do yourselves reckon?

I think that none of the terms will become obsolete. Sure, their usage may be reduced over time given the shifting trends (as with all terms), but saying that they will be completely replaced is just a load of nonsense to me.

Especially with fiat, I don't know how they expect that to be obsolete within the next 20 years.

Sure, bitcoin could see huge adoption waves within the next 20 years but governments realistically won't give up control over money supply at any stage, and thus fiat would exist in one form or another. And as long as they exist, the term which represents it will stay as well.

Most of those words will still be there. However, the list is weak imho.
There are more worthy words/expressions for that list, for example Transaction accelerator.
It looks like somebody wanted to make an article and attract traffic, but didn't invest enough time/attention/thinking into it.

Instead of worrying about crypto terms becoming obsolete, worry about how we're working towards a path where decentralization is slowly becoming obsolete. It's in process as we speak.

People celebrate how EOS block producers can reverse people's transactions at will and seize balances, which isn't actually something to celebrate at all. This sounds exactly like the financial institutions we are trying to escape from in the non crypto world. The same entities are using the opening people here provide them to take over and mess up what's meant to add value to anything that represents crypto.

As far as I can tell EOS attracts nothing but utter derision, unless you happen to own some. They're slowly working their way through every ghastly outcome that crypto could possibly throw up. It's good that there's something that daffy demonstrating why such ideas are awful. I don't get how the price is still up there though.

The thing with terminology is that it has to be used frequently to stay relevant. A lot of terms are replaced over time, with

something more relevant and every generation wants to replace the historical terminology with their own. You recognise this

as you get older. (Just look at the slang words for sex as it changed through different generations) Hump / Bumping uglies /

Score / Bone / Nail / Hit a home run / Hook up  ..etc...)  Grin

I'd like to see "Ripple" obsolete in 5 years or less.   Cheesy

True enough.  If we take the internet as an example, how many people do you hear calling it the "information superhighway" anymore?  I'm sure that used to be a thing lots of people said, but now it's just too tragically cliché to say it out loud.  It's not easy to predict which terms are going to fall out of common usage and which ones will withstand the test of time.

I agree to what Jimmy Song have said about "bearwhale" and "this is gentlemen". I hardly see those two terms being used in a sentence anymore and it seems like a lot of people will be forgetting this terms in the near future. Unlike Fiat and Hodl which is still frequently being used I don't think that it will be obsolete even after 10 years, what I am seeing is that as long as cryptocurrency grows the more popular this two words will be as they will be going with them as basic terms in the industry

The bearwhale will never be forgotten and I see it mentioned every now and then and we've also had zero reason to claim gentlemenliness in a long old time. It'll be back eventually when things are bubbly.

I don't get how the price is still up there though.

I strongly believe that EOS will be the highlight of the next bull run in terms of raw percentage gains. In other words, prepare for worse.

Imagine what will happen with EOS when it starts working and Coinbase lists it on their platform.... It stings me to say so, but the coin to be the most bullish on is this centralized pile of madness. It will prove to be an interesting battle between EOS and Ethereum though, especially with how Ethereum has reached its limits in terms of scaling. Has Ethereum the same level of first mover advantage as Bitcoin to shake off competitors? We'll see.

People get what they wish for. It's all about supply and demand. If the users are rubbish, we'll get rubbish products delivered right in front of our face.

Why so hostile? Jargon can evolve very quickly, technology paradigms can change in just a few years, so it's totally possible that some of their predictions will come true. Judging by the current state of this field, to me it seems extremely likely that many of the concepts will die in the future. The only silly part in this article is how some of the people predict that fiat will disappear, lol. This is seriously naive or dishonest.

Some of those are really ridiculous

Quote
Lambo is already out. The cars look ghastly, and no one with any sense of taste would be caught riding one.

Really? That is his argument?
They also think there will be no more use for "shitcoin" ? Those guys live in some parallel world.

Well, I hope we will might reach a stage where we would not have to use the term "shitposter" anymore.

Instead of worrying about crypto terms becoming obsolete, worry about how we're working towards a path where decentralization is slowly becoming obsolete. It's in process as we speak.

Nothing to worry anymore. The battle is already lost, all it matters are profits, decentralization is probably going to be one of those terms that will lose meaning when used alongside cryptos.
And it's pretty easy to see what's happening here on this forum too, people cheering GS issuing centralized coins, newbies asking Theymos to implement KYC...and many more.

Cryptos will not get killed by the government or the reptilians, but many of them are going to end up pretty badly because of their own users and their greed.

But, but, if Bitcoin goes mainstream, or when, (wait, what, it's still not?) then we'll be getting not just the millennials coming to grips with these terms but also the spawn of millennials.

Crypto has already ensured TA terminology get new leases of life. Even brought new useless meanings to them. Double bottoms? Dead cat bounce? Bear/bull trap? Don't see why any of that list will go obsolete.

A list of terms already obsolete might convince me. How about zero-fee Bitcoin txs? Or... *gasp* decentralisation?

Hodling will exist for as long as Bitcoin. Some things become a part of the culture and will forever be associated with it. When older people think of a representations of a computer they always see a desktop PC like one of those early IBMs from the 90s. Bitcoin will be associated with that expensive pizza, silk road, mt.gox, hodlers, teenage millionaires, and many more.
