I often like to discuss altcoin development, particularly related to writing smart contracts on Ethereum & EOS, however I'm not aware of any board on BCT designed for this as the development forums are specifically related only to Bitcoin. My suggestion is to add a "Development" or "Technical Discussion" section for altcoins.

Actually the post does belong in Meta, as it is a suggestion abiut the forum. And all forum related discussios should be made in Meta

My suggestion is to add a "Development" or "Technical Discussion" section for altcoins.

Altcoin discussion could use a couple of boards, but for now the altcoin discussion board could cover most of the discussions about altcoins.
This is bitcointalk, so the focus is on Bitcoin related discussions.

Your idea has been suggested by many members previously (including me), but until now it doesn't happen. IMO it's because :
1. No moderator with sufficient altcoin's technical knowledge which means moderator can't identify which post is FUD, troll or not
2. Many members would pretend they have in-depth knowledge, even though all they do are throw some terminology or details from other website/whitepaper
3. The board would turn into announcement/promotion board where each coins claims they have best technology

Besides, few of non-bitcoin/altcoin technology already discussed on Development & Technical Discussion.
Things might be different if this suggested-board have some restriction such as signature disabled or minimum rank (Jr. Member / Member).

Creation of new boards happens when one or several already existing boards are constantly filled with discussions of one particular type of topic (be it tech or otherwise). So unless +50% of all front page (read: the first page of one of the altcoin boards) discussions are about altcoin tech (and that doesn't seem to be the case, at least from glancing over the Altcoin Discussion board), creation of a new section that'll pretty much be dead on arrival doesn't make much sense.

You are late. Altcoin  project development board proposed long time ago. Please read it here; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5040335.0 . I just simply search and got result although I have remember it has discussed several time but no response from admin side. There is not enough mod right now for all current board. In that situation I don't think admin will consider for new board.

However since there is another post about it, can you lock this thread and continue discussion on old thread ?

Your post not belong to meta.

Wrong instruction, since this is forum related suggestion for implement something obviously it goes to meta. OP didn't search before posting that there is another post or OP inactive on meta.

Perhaps only Ethereum and Monero are worth discussing at the moment since I agree with @theymos:

This altcoin massacre made me ponder what the coin market cap listing should look like, if this stuff was based on real fundamental value and not pure pump-and-dump speculation. I'd put XMR and ETH at a very distant second and third to BTC, since they each provide some very real features over BTC which people are using right now to good effect (though each has problems). I haven't looked into the more recent ones much, though. Are there any others that are backed by more than empty promises?

However, XMR and ETH dev would use its respective forum to discuss the technical stuff... Why would they start posting here in bitcoin forum? I'm afraid new altcoin board will lead to more junk "proof of something" topics that full of jargons.
