When does the reward for solving a block go from 50btc to 25btc?

I have searched and seen estimates range from early next year to late next year to early 2013.

I have heard people say that the price will go up at that point, or just before that point as people anticipate that event.

The block reward will halve every 210,000 blocks.
Since we're currently at block 151995, that means we still have 58005 blocks to go.
If blocks did actually come exactly every ten minutes, then this would be about 403 days from now (around 2012-12-13)

Of course if you're serious about Bitcoin you'd just replace your normal watch with this: http://bitcoinclock.com Grin

To add the reason why there is no exact date is while Bitcoin strives to keep average block time @ 10 min it rarely gets exactly there.

For any adjustment period (2016 blocks) if hashing power is higher than current difficulty the network will adjust at next adjustment point BUT the average block time will be <10 min.  If hashing power is lower than current difficulty then average block time will be >10 min.  So we can only guesstimate.
