Old or new it are the specs that count mainly. When a coin get traction among the public or how long it takes is something you cant predict upfront.

You will never say what can push the cryptocurrencies run faster. This April, which was the first step forward started with the best market movement. It happened during the period, where almost nobody expected any positive changes. The next bull run (I bet) will come the day when all stop waiting for the Moonrise. We cannot predict these events ever.

New coins won't have the volumes, they can't lead a market. It's not like some low cap new ICO can go up in price, and then this pulls up say ETH and XRP with it. I can't see any way that could happen.

My bet would be that they will be mostly old ones, but there can always be one or two new gems that rises to the top 15

I don't share the sentiments of new coins leading the altcoin bull run because of firstly, their foundation basis and secondly, the size of their community. Since the old altcoins have the larger share of the cryptocurrency community, the bull will start from these communities before spreading to the adjoining smaller communities
