I was hearing soft fork talk.

A fork may be inevitable at some point if the team keeps talking about ASIC resistance.

According to this reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/zec/comments/blvhnn/any_new_information_on_the_zcash_algorithm_fork/ there are no Zcash forks or recent changes in algorythim to make ZEC asics resistant:

There were some proposals in that directon, but they currently are not actively working on forking.
