Choose a wallet that lets you hold your own private keys. Yes, there's too many option for someone who's looking for a good wallet. You may find the reliable ones through: https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet

Desktop wallet is good for people who don't have budget to buy hardware wallet and the most popular is 'Electrum'. But if you can avail to have an hardware wallet, you should have it. The amount of asset you hold doesn't matter, what matters is the security that it offers to every user of it.

I would like to have only hardware wallets if possible, they are the best in terms of security.
Don't trust web wallets that will hold private keys for you!

absolutely right and now there are still many wallets that are great for storing our assets well, and if it's a matter of security if I think it depends on myself. the problem is from the private key and the safety of our other assets that only we know

WillyZ, I suggest you to use any kind of the wallet you like (you can even use the first one you find in google), but you must think wise about using it and security options of your PC or mobile.
Because no matter how bad or good your wallet will be, you can lose everything by one click simply buy copy/pasting private info or opening scam webpage or document.

Hey!

How should one be choosing a wallet? Lots of options out there.

In choosing of wallet if you have a bitcoin I suggest that if you have money or budget better for you to buy Trezor or hardware wallet, or if you don't have any money you can us cold storage which is Electrum. However, if your coins is a type of altcoins you can use MEW or coinomi for android wallet those are all safe.

depending on how much you are holding and how long you intend to hold it. in case you are someone that want crypto wallet to hold some coin for a short duration, you can go for web wallet. some desktop wallet that let you have control over your private key is also good (Electrum wallet etc) but make sure you download from official website. In case you are considering storing a large sum of crypto for a long period of time, I will advise you to go for hardware wallet because they are the safest. Trevor and ledger nano are some good hardware wallet. GYM ledger is also a new hardware wallet that is just being introduced to the market.

A wallet for crypto chooses it according to your needs. For bounty campaigns I recommend MEW, it's an easy-to-use ERC20 online wallet and is a safe wallet as long as you do not lose your private key. If you invest large amounts of money, I recommend a hardware wallet because hacking for this type of wallet does not exist. The best-known hardware wallet is Ledger Nano.

To store bitcoin, there have many good options to choose from! I am using Coinbase as a bitcoin and ETH wallet since 2014, and I have never faced any problem here! Coinbase can be used in your smartphone and web browser by visiting and their security also very good if you enable all the options! Therefore Electrum wallet is very popular for the desktop wallet! The best option is a hardware wallet. I have Ledger Nano S but still, I am using the Coinbase to store my bitcoin.

When you choose a wallet, you should think about how safe it is and whether you can trust the developers. I think that you should try to use only original wallets. I think it is more secure.

I was wondering the same thing, what are the most important factors for people when choosing their wallets?

For me it's an interesting question because one of the products our company developed is a wallet. The eesty wallet (www.eesty.ee) is an iOS / android cold storage wallet (no storage of your private keys) and it works with BTC, ETH and recognizes ETH tokens as well.

It also gives you cash-back or "hash-back" rewards for using it / recommending it to your friends. Every time you send crypto or refer a friend you earn tokens, which can be redeemed for mining hash-power in Estonia (and eventually ETH).

Not sure if that's enough to get someone to use it Cheesy.

Wallets are not all the same and have huge differences in security. Personally I would use only a FULL NODE like core for any large amount. If we are talking about $100, then I might use a phone wallet. A phone wallet has much higher risks but the convenience of it is worth the risk for me. Basically I don't put more bitcoin on my phone than the value of the phone.

A full node running on a Linux machine is good enough security to hold millions of dollars. Consider setting up a Linux computer. Linux is free and far better than windows.

Depending on the amount there are hardware, desktop, online wallets. For small amounts i prefer to use android, online wallets but for storing cryptocurrencies i use my nano ledger hardware wallet.

What wallet do you need? Because as you said their are so many wallet or options. But you need also to choose a that have a erc20 for your coins that need that. Try to search more that fit to you. If you have a country wallet try it because here in my country we have a wallet that for our country only and this is so secured.
