Why my blockchain is so small ?

Hello all

I downloaded bitcoin-qt from official website

It sync during something like 2 weeks, I had read it was normal that it was long as the blockchain is now +250 Gb


Note that as I havn't enough space on my C:\...\Roaming\Bitcoin, I chose to put the bitcoin core on another drive like F:\CoreBitcoin at installation


Now that it is finished, and despite the bitcoin wallet seems OK, I see that my directory containing the blocks (so in F:\CoreBitcoin\...) is only 6 Gb


Is it normal ? did I miss something ?

Go to the settings, select options and see if you have 'Prune block storage to ...' enabled under 'Main' tab. If you do, it means that your client downloads and verifies every single block, but keeps only a specified amount of data. If you want to serve as an archival node then you will have to redownload all the blocks again after disabling pruning. If you use Bitcoin Core only as your wallet then you will be fine with such a setup.

By the way, the synchronization time decreases greatly if you move the chainstate to an SSD. It took me about 10 hours to sync using a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and an NVMe SSD.

Actually i'm using Armory : I want it to plug to Bitcoin-qt, and it doesn't work saying that it cannot load the blockchain

Armory is not very well maintained and it hasn't actually been improved on much for the past few years.

It doesn't support pruning as it builds its own database using Bitcoin Core's data. Without a full blockchain, Armory cannot function.

I'm trying to load Armory to see if I can recover some old fraction of btc from an old wallet

too bad I could not use the "chainstate move" to my SSD, quite sure I did it right but bitcoin-qt won't load after this change
always getting error messages about the block that cannot be loaded

so I'm good for another 2 weeks of loading the blockchain, thanks anyway for the info on this prune option

I know Armory have the option to manage Bitcoin Core (by default)
so you should just install core and follow the "pathing" guide in Armory's webpage: https://btcarmory.com/docs/pathing
Core's data dir should be launched from the directory specified in armory's config files.

Note: If you've downloaded from bitcoinarmory.com instead of btcarmory.com, you have the outdated version.

Do the above or just export the private keys and import it to Electrum  
(do this while offline - works without downloading the whole blockchain):

Click "Wallet Properties" then, "Backup This Wallet".
Check "Export Key Lists", then the button with the same name below, type your password and a window will open.
Check "Include Unused (Address Pool)", check "Omit spaces in key data" (below) and find your address from the list and copy its private key WIF (PrivBase58).

Download Electrum from the official site: electrum.org
Use, "Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys" when creating a new wallet, and paste your private key there.
