Mobile number on Telegram are "private" as far as I can tell. This is why I prefer it to other messenging apps.
Unfortunately it was hacked last year and some phone numbers were probably stolen by the hackers.
Hopefully we will have other similar applications that do not require phone numbers.

There is no setting to hide the number, the number will already be hidden if the other person is not having your number saved in his phone on first place.

You had a point only owner of mobile number can know it. And if I'm not mistaken if the number stored in our mobile have also an telegram account he/he automatically can we seen their names at our telgram account.

Well, nobody can see your contact on Telegram unless you do so.Grin
But they can see the contact:
  • If the person is in your contact list and you send a message or vice versa Wink
  • If you had shared your number via Contact info Cheesy

I think everyone that message you on the app can see your phone number
I think no one ecxept you.
Hi!

No-one who is not in your contacts. If you add someone to contacts or they search you by number - they can add you.

Try experimenting with a friend or get a sim-card to try it out yourself if youre not sure.

By the way, if you don't want to use your own number - there's a number of services online that rent numbers for a fee, sometimes just for a short time.

Cheers!
Only if your number is in his phone book.
who have your number saved Cheesy
no one can see it except the one who has your number in their phone book
i think no one can see your number there except the people who already has your number.
Yes, only members who are present in your contact list can see your mobile number
Those are present in your contact list can see your mobile number
All of you clearly do not know what you are talking about.

@OP - This is customizable, go to Settings --> Privacy and Security --> Phone Number

You can choose between everyone, your contacts or no one, and can add exceptions to allow certain users or groups to be allowed to see your number.

Anyone who has telegram but doesn't have your number won't be able to see that you're using this app. But if they do have both, they'll receive a notification that you joined telegram.

It's not true, the users might see your number if you won't change your privacy settings. So I advise you to double check it
