Hi,

consider this:

KRAKEN
COINBASE

LEDGER NANO
WASABI

coins sent from KRAKEN>LEDGER

now If you don't want coinbase to know your ledger balance, is running coinjoin trough wasabi a good idea if the coins final destination is the ledger (has kraken kyc coins inside)?

I've heard one should not send coinjoin coins to kyc wallets?

this is not about doing stuff which needs anonymity, someone I know just don't want to spread information.

yes, running multiple coinjoins is a good way to break the chain from your original outputs. it should keep them from snooping on your balance.

I've heard one should not send coinjoin coins to kyc wallets?

some exchanges have terms (or at least suspected policies) against mixers. but i've never seen any terms specifically against coinjoins, and i've never heard of anyone getting their account closed over it.

so basically the ledger nano is tainted because there are coins from a KYC exchange inside, correct? so in this case kraken knows the "whole" balance of this ledger forever, right?

Aantonop said in one recent video that coinjoin is even considered "illegal" in some countries. I wasn't able to find something backing this up in a quick search.

Really? How they will know if particular bitcoin address or entity uses Coinjoin? I think coinjoin is about privacy on top of Bitcoin. And if it is illegal, how they will able to sue some person/entity using coinjoin? Since as far as I know once you use coinjoin, it will really help you not to identify the original input, just what @figmentofmyass said.
I' m a bit confused about this, because once they will know a particular address if uses a coinjoin, then coinjoin purpose is no more, coinjoin has no help on privacy anymore.

help on privacy anymore.

well, your coins get mixed with potential "criminal" coins/chain paths.

this is not about doing stuff which needs anonymity, someone I know just don't want to spread information.

in that case coinjoin is more than enough.
what you could do is that you could always have 2 wallets. first one as the "hot wallet" where you receive the payments and the second as the storage (the hardware wallet for instance) where you first receive the coins in the hot wallet then mix them through coinjoin or any other method and then send it to the storage wallet.
this will cost a lot of fees though.

There's no way anyone can say if a transaction is coinjoin or from a mixer service, those transactions are same as the normal transactions. So, I don't think any exchange has such terms.
Exchanges may have term that you can't deposit fund from illegal entity, if someone accuses with valid proof, they may hold ones account or may reveal your identity.

There's a few blockchain explorers that lets you know if a transaction is possibly coinjoin. I've looked up the video that zhzz mentioned and to be specific he mentioned europe, i'm guessing it's because of the bestmixer incident.

some exchanges have terms (or at least suspected policies) against mixers. but i've never seen any terms specifically against coinjoins, and i've never heard of anyone getting their account closed over it.
This user got his account locked temporarily because some of his transactions were done with coinjoin.

thanks for the info! on bitfinex of all places, that's surprising! in fact the user had his account permanently closed over this.

i'd be be curious to know how much volume he was running through his account, given their response about sourcing bought coins via coinjoin and the fact that nopara73 was able to deposit/withdraw using outputs from the flagged addresses.

that is the big problem with centralized exchanges, they can easily lock your account whenever they like. it doesn't have to be a Coinjoin related transaction either. in fact they have no way of proving a transaction belongs to Coinjoin, all you see on these block explorers or chain analysis groups are a guess at best but it is not a proof. but they don't need it to be. they easily do whatever they like.

Because the guy didn't say everything perhaps, we don't know what he was doing with his account. Look for example the other guy who commented to say they locked him because he used the darknet... It could be the same for the first guy.

I doubt the problem was really Coinjoin, since someone else tested the address too.
