This is the fact that projects are taking too long to complete the development. This in turn lower the confidence in the projects.
Off course we can wait so long, unless we get timely updates on developments of the projects. Missing or decreasing the communication, can be a sense of scam project.

At a point the team start given excuses to abide by what they promised to do or stop communicating with the community then I can sense the project is scam. How do you determine a project is gone bad and won't fulfil it promise? What criteria do you use ? or you wait for years thinking all will be well ?

Usually when the developer team is no longer active to communicate about the development of the project or the transaction volume is too small compared to the acquisition of ICO. Communication from the developer team is important because it is to ensure investor confidence.

In my opinion, you can determine it just by looking at their activity on social media.
When they start acting weird, then it would be the last time you will see them Grin

yeah, that's one of the reasons we suspect they are a project scam. they will start giving many reasons to avoid any questions from investors and of course as you said, that will be the last time we see it.

even more painful, they will look strange when they have managed to get a lot of funds from investors and make bounty hunters work hard to promote their scam project for free.

Crypto project is realized to be scam when the team fails to deliver what was planned and promised in the whitepaper, no telegram activities from the admins, no further information from the core team, close of the website, no distribution of the tokens etc. These are part few ways to know when a project turns out to be scam.
