I thought this was only a Ubuntu unity problem at the beginning - for example the launcer window not showing up, the menu on the top (i.e. file/settings/exit) only loading for testnet and nor for mainnet.
So I tried running it on Windows 7 - and it's awful, for example exiting through the normal file menu, the bitcoin-qt process is not killed completely (this happens everytime!) and all one is left to do if they wish to start QT again is to ctrl alt delete the old process and then start the client.

Basically I can't believe these guys are saying they don't get enough support - what's the basis for this? Any for profit organization would have gone out of business for this kind of stuff by now.

Unless development stops, there will always be bugs in any software project.

There is very few software that is entirely bug-free.
Also don't forget the fact that this client is developed by far less people than other applications that still have a lot of bugs.

Windows calculator? Notepad?

Actually most windows programs (Autocad, Photoshop) I use have crashed (once at most?) in the past couple months and are generally stable, despite being a good deal more complex than bitcoin-QT.
