Proof of the origin of the BTC

So, I've been using an exchange and they asked me to prove the origin of my bitcoins (apparently it's normal procedure).

I want to know how this should be done exactly if my funds were obtained through signature campaigns and dealing online with other individuals? I've had some the funds I'm selling now stored for years (except when I moved them to Trezor when I first bought it) and I can no longer remember the campaigns nor the people I've traded with.

Also, should I expect them to perform chain analysis or I must provide every TXID that shows the movement of my funds and also threads of these campaigns and their spreadsheets? I also have no longer access to my original addresses (before moving to Trezor) where I originally received the BTC to.

Tell them you earned bitcoins by selling goods, you sold a gift card for BTC, or you received gifts, etc. Don't be too paranoid. They don't give much importance to the source. What they don't want to hear is things like "I made some money in a casino" or "I sold cigarettes on the Internet". Anything that alludes to what is considered illegal. (like what most web wallets ToS have)

They won't do a chain analysis just for this, it's something that takes time, resources, and money, they don't audit for something not so important or not so alarming.

Sucks. I guess this is becoming commonplace. Which exchange, and did they specify what they want exactly? Transaction IDs, screenshots? I agree with LeGaulois; I would keep it as vague as possible.

They don't expect private keys so you probably don't need to worry about accessing those addresses. The main question is, will they accept campaign spreadsheets as "proof?" I'm not sure we've seen this tested before.

Going with the flow of suggestions, you could say that someone gave it to you as a gift to start adopting this new mode of payment. If they get too cocky get some close friend to do a video proof that they sent you the money.

About campaign payments you could show them the links to the spreadsheets and further link that with the transaction ids of the days you received payments. A bit hectic I know, but if the exchange officials are compliant enough with their procedures they should be ok.

The only problem here would be funds received from gambling sites and other exchanges. Its tough to prove their origin and possible legal problems with gambling from where OSS lives.
