tryninja thanks.
It seem to updated.
When i remove and then connect the nano ledger s back to my laptop, the first message on the nano ledger s it tells me is to install apps and follow the instructions from start.ledger.... then it goes to settings where im at now. This is from the nano ledger screen itself.
Can you confirm this is the message they receive after doing the firmware update? I had mentioned i did not know if i saw this message earlier on my ledger live or nano ledger but its the nano ledger itself.
Thanks.

Yes. A firmware update removes all installed apps. Since there isn't any, it just tells you to reinstall the apps.

Tryninja thanks for confirming this. I just added bitcoin, bitcoin cash to it and now these icons appear in my nano ledger s screen. So when i scroll the screen, it should be settings, bitcoin, bitcoin cash... then back to settings right?
Im curious but in previous updates, was it done the same way as this? If you look at the instructions on the ledger site on updating firmware, it seem to ask you to first uninstall all your apps from your device. Did you do this or did you not do this first before clicking firmware update? Im almost close to 100 percent sure i did not do this the previous 2 times i did the firmware update a while back when i first got the nano ledger s.
Also the instructions now of unplugging it and then hold left button and plugging it back in and waiting for the bootlogger word showing on the nano ledger before you release the left button, is this the new method? Im pretty certain this was not how it was done previously for older firmware updates? I recall just clicking on firmware updates and then waiting... do you recall if this method now is different from previous? What i do remember is the first time i did firmware update, my nano ledger had an issue with the mcu updating and it froze. Then it took a while to fix the issue with hcp and your help i believe a long time ago.

It doesn't really matter... You're being overzealous again... They just tell people to uninstall the apps for the sake of doing. I never did and nothing ever happened. I'm not sure, but it's the method described on: 1. the update prompt; 2. their video on the official youtube channel; 3. their website[1]; etc... it's official. There is nothing to worry about because you don`t recall this method of updating. It wouldn't even matter if it wasn't, since there is no way of a malicious website/software to install a fake/infected firmware. Remember... be cautious not paranoid. tryninja i agree. But for me, when i do a firmware update, im very cautious about it. Back then i didnt touch my electrum wallet for a long time when i had btc there because i was concerned with the electrum fake wallets and maybe clicking something by accident.
So when i finally did the firmware update from nano ledger from 1.4.2 to 1.5.5, i wanted to make sure it was simple as possible. So when i did it by clicking update... then it ask me to remove it and plug it back in when holding it until bootlogger... i thought you got to be kidding me. I dont remember this. So because its new... i was hesistant. Then after not doing something for a while, the ledger live suddenly logged out itself. So i freaked out there. Then i decided to unplug it then plug it back in... but when i did, i got nervous and did not remember to hold the left button. Then i unplugged it again and plugged it back in while holding it... then saw the bootlogger. Then followed the instructions to let it update 3 times etc. Im pretty certain when i did this, i did not have to enter my ledger live password... im not 100 percent sure on this. But after it then downloaded, mcu update then firmware update... i thought great.
But when i got message i have to install apps again and follow instructions from start.ledger on my nano ledger screen, i was bit concerned about this. But i thought okay i think its fine. But to me, everytime i have to do firmware update, i get very anxious about it due to the first time i did an update firmware when i first got it, i thought it bricked etc because tons of ppl made similar comments on it whether reddit or anything else.

They just tell people to uninstall the apps for the sake of doing. I never did and nothing ever happened.
Just FYI, the reason the "new" firmware update instructions tell you to uninstall all the apps, is because you *might* need to free up space on the device's internal memory so it can actually upload the firmware update AND the updater tool. If you only have one or two apps installed (like Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash), there is a good chance that the updater and firmware will actually fit without you having to remove anything. However, if you have maxed out the internal memory and have a lot of apps installed, there is a good chance the firmware update will fail as you won't be able to transfer the updater app and firmware to the device.

Where did you get your Ledger from in July 2019 that it only had 1.2 firmware on it??!? Or did you mean 2018 or 2017? You can try the old Ledger Manager Chrome app and see if that still works: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ledger-manager/beimhnaefocolcplfimocfiaiefpkgbf?utm_source=chrome-app-launcher-info-dialogInstall it via Chrome browser and see if you can at least update to 1.3.1... then you'll be able to use Ledger Live. Otherwise, as per one of the earlier posts and the note on the Ledger Support page, you'll need to contact Ledger to get a replacement device: Firmware versions 1.1 and 1.2 cannot be updated with Ledger Live. Please check the firmware version before submitting a support request to get a replacement device.

I ordered directly on www.ledger.comI checked right now my mails. The shipment notification I got from ledger.com was on 26.06.2019 Why you wondering? Is there something wrong? I could belief they had some outdated ledgers on stock, why not to sell them. The strange thing is, that I can't find on their website how to update with 1.2 on newest, that is strange.

Seems not to be working for me. I open the app- pop up says: "To begin, connect your ledger. If asked, enter your PIN code to unlock your device." I do connect my device and enter the PIN. But nothing happens.

If what you wrote is true, it is best to contact Ledger Support and explain what happened and your device will be replaced for free. Although it is hard to believe that Ledger would have done something like this intentionally, it could be a mistake. It is common for devices to ship with a recent firmware as possible, because there is no point in selling something that can't really be used. Regarding Ledger Chrome apps, last time I check (few months ago), Ledger Manager didn't work, and I can only use apps already installed on the Nano S.

Oh, I believe you... I'm just astonished that Ledger would be shipping such devices! They're effectively sending out "non-functional" Nano S's!!?! I hope this hasn't happened to too many other folks... That would be a very poor user experience to receive a "new" device that was effectively D.O.A.!

All is fine, works good with Ledger Live App. Im staking my coins- just thought to update it- the update part is non functional, yes.

I was also thinking that Ledger Live will not work with such old firmware, I even think I read it somewhere, though I'm probably mistaken if you confirm otherwise. I wonder what Ledger will answer in your case because this is the first time this has happened to anyone (as far as I know). No doubt you will get a new device, they might even surprise you with a new Nano X

Seems like the 1.2.4-1 is the oldest version for nano X

Then the mystery is solved, Ledger is too serious company to make such a failure - I doubt they even have any device with such old firmware. Regarding Nano X firmware, the current version is 1.2.4-1, but this is a new device and you don't need to mix versions of Nano X with Nano S which is some 3 years old device. Please note that there is no available update for the Ledger Nano X. The current firmware version is 1.2.4-1

Not really... they're completely different devices really. So they obviously have different firmware versions... just keep an eye on their blog ( https://www.ledger.com/category/blog-posts/) or their twitter ( https://twitter.com/Ledger) or sign up to the email newsletter and you'll know when they release new firmware for the Nano X...
