Before you begin to read this guide I would like to state that this guide is based on my personal experiences, some points may have been covered in earlier guides, some I may have changed to suit to my preferences. This is not a fixed guide but you can use it as a base to grow up, and earn more merits on this forum.

1) Affirmations: I’m a big believer of affirmations and each day I give out affirmations like, I’ll post constructive and helpful posts and if it’s worty for a merit I’ll get one if not I’ll not fret and happily post again the next day.

I would suggest you to create similar affirmations, and do note not that not each day you’ll be rewarded merits but this will definitely ease the pressure on your mind when you’re writing your posts.

The key reason why I feel people should give out positive affirmations before posting is, because most of the posts here begin negatively or end up saying leave me a merit etc. These posts shows the lack of confidence in themselves, and that’s the reason why they fail to get merits.

2) Keep it simple: Ever since merits came many users felt the way to go ahead was to make their posts as detailed, and long so others would see their posts useful and leave merits. I feel this is a wrong approach and I would suggest you’ll to trim down your content, and you’ll be surprised because you’ll receive more merits for those simple posts.

3) Build Relationships through your posts: How many times have you actually tried to build a relationship here with fellow members through your posts, I’ll bet not many times because those users may not be merit sources and hence you never felt the need to build a connection with them. It goes without saying but you need to post meaningful posts in the forum to build your reputation, and once that’s done merits will follow.

4) Avoid targeting Merit Sources: It’s an open secret that they hate being pestered for merits, but if you post good posts then believe me they do notice and they’ll definitely drop those big bounty of merits on you. Though it’s not easy for all to receive those big bounty merits from them, but follow their advices and in time you’ll receive merits from them.

5) Jack of all trades, Master of None: Many users here post across all sections, but fail to specialise in one or two particular niche stop doing that. I highly recommended choose one or two particular sections and then start posting research based posts, and build your reputation out there. Once you do that merits will automatically follow you, provided you don’t drop your standards.

6) Never stop reading: I have kept 10 minutes out of my daily schedule to visit this section to read any new tips or guides that can pop up out here which will further help me improve my skills. Hence it’s a kind suggestion never stop reading guides out here, you never know what you might learn.

This thread has covered mostly all the guides relating on merits, and hence I’m not individually posting all the links: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5189040.0

7) Make sure your posts are constructive and helpful: I can’t stress how important post quality is, but since every guide has covered it in details I’ll keep it short here focus on quality rather than quantity.

That’s it I’ll add more tips if I implement them, but this is more than enough for now good luck to all.

Keeping it short and simple is actually pretty challenging. It's quite difficult to simplify technical information so that readers could easily digest. The key there is to know who will read your piece. I just posted one and to be honest, I'm still not sure if I will be able to achieve what I intended to do.

What you said is not difficult for someone who speaks English. But it's still more difficult for people who don't speak English well.
I'm someone with poor English so I can only post in my native language.
But the chance of getting merit in this way is much less.

One of the means of validating yourself is yourself. Because merit will be published based on your experience. If you look after a book and look at something, it does not fit your mind. What you do by trying to shave your head is your true intellect. This is why in my opinion you can improve yourself more with your intellectual guide based on experience.

This is where I would agree that your reputation plays a big part in receiving merit. My observations have been that users in the local sections are more inclined to reward those that regularly post in that section, and are part of that mini community within the forums. As long as there is enough users that are merit sources within your local section, and are rewarding regularly then I would probably say that earning merit in the local sections might be easier due to less competition, and local merit sources are sometimes appointed for the sole reason of distributing merit within their local section.

Very good guide Juggy777.
Personally, for me the most important is the last part, that post should be constructive and help others, contribute something to the forum.
If I find such post and have merits, I will give to the user who wrote something what benefit others.
Nobody likes people who beg for something and they are negative, trust me.
Be positive, share your knowledge and experience and others will appreciate and reward it.

Keep it simple: You said this rule and you broke it. I was about to give you some Merits if I didn't see that the text was too long.
Try shortening words or making engagement attractive.

Adding some illustrations, focusing on the impact of the content, making merits your last concern and others will enable you to earn a lot in a short time.

That's a solid advice, but you generally can't expect to earn a lot of merits by simply writing good posts - most of the time they still will be unmerited, because we actually have a lot of good posts on this forum. The best way to earn a lot of merit is creating outstanding posts - things that require some effort and not simply providing your opinion or sharing some common knowledge. Outstanding posts can be guides, announcements of some creations like free tools or services, research, art and so on. Outstanding posts generally have tens and even hundreds of merits, while good posts only get single digit merits most of the time. Because of this, outstanding posts are actually more time and effort efficient than good posts if you want to earn merits.

It seems you found out your approach to increase your rate of merit-receiving and moved much closer to your next rank. I admired you so much that you spent your last two years very patiently, no complaint along with cool posts. You moved slowly before your latest rock but eventually you have nearly reached your next rank.

I want to say congratulations in advance.

I never made constructive posts (wall of texts) while posting, I will keep the things and anyone can understand the statement with ease rather than going through paragraphs three or four times to get what is actually said on it.Still, I managed to rank up somehow. So never try to posts for getting merits be the real kind of poster and increase the quality rather than increasing the number of characters.

Constructive posts are not wall-of-texted ones. Most of time, when writers make wall-of-texted documents (posts or topics in the forum, in particular), there are higher risks of distractions. It does not mean short ones are always not distractive or off-topic, it depends on writers.

Some members are not willingly to build any relationship here. They only post in a particular post without following it up to check whether someone quoted their post or not. Btt forum should be an interactive section, not to only post and leave
