[scam] KayHosting.com stopped services after paying

I paid KayHosting.com for my 100 GB shared hosting package until August 7th, 2021.
It’s been offline once in a while, because the server runs out of disk space. After a ticket, they usually cleaned up the server until it was “only” 95% full.
Since yesterday, the server is down again. Kayhosting’s response:

Hello,

We are no longer offering service, we apologize for the trouble.

I don't expect many people here to use it, but I'm posting my review and scam accousation about KayHosting.com here so Google can pick up on it and hopefully they won't make new victims. Unfortunately it's easy to continu from another name.

To be fair: I didn't pay much, but just disappearing is a scam in my book. Luckily I keep local backups.

I believe that is a lesson learnt. I would suggest sticking to trustworthy companies for these transactions. You can't believe how much data and other things I lost in the past few years due to this.

EDIT: LET and LEB are not really the best sources for trustworthy companies. Not to mention if you see any server that is cheap to raise a brow, its not going to last.

Wow, that's annoying. Good you have local backups, but in case someone didn't: would they at least allow to create a backup and download it before vanishing?

Btw, I've had very good experience with Vultr, so far. Almost all my crypto related projects are hosted with them. After one CC payment, you can also pay with Bitcoin. No bad experience with downtime, so far and their support is amazingly fast. Just in case you're undecided where to continue.

Ah bad luck mate that's always horrid being scammed. You do so much round here and I'm sure I'm not the only one who is very very grateful, so it all seems doubly unfair. Wish you the best of luck finding someone reliable and honest.

The cost does not a matter to help them out of scam accusation. $10 might be a small fund for the one but might be a significant fund for the others who have to seriously consider before accept and pay for that cost.
Received costs from customers and dissapeared without repayments and timegaps for users to download all necessary data are very bad.

At least they should give users (LoyceV, in this case) an acceptable time to download data. They ignored the probability of losing important data for LoyceV.

Some of your data is automatically overwritten by newest versions so it reduces data lost, but I know there are something not overwritten.

It is the way people try new services and somehow help those ones grow up. I think it is a good approach for unimportant data. New experience, new chances, and help the others to grow up.

I noticed I expected some down time sometimes and an overloaded server (but since I only serve static HTML that wouldnt' be a problem), I just didn't expect them to unplug their entire operation. So I don't think this warning topic matters much to them anymore either

I don't think so, they've even unplugged their own hosting website now.

It's really not about the money (which really wasn't much ), but the fact that I've been spending my past days fixing stuff is .... annoying ;P
I did get several offers though, and I've been postponing moving to a VPS for a while now, so long-term, I'm going to be better off without this webhost.

I haven't lost a single file That's the one benefit of not having a VPS: I had to create all files locally. On a VPS, I could lose data between backups if the shit hits the fan, but this data isn't that critical anyway.

And yeah, they are gone for good, along with more than 20+ other hosting providers.
Probably next year they will pop-up again with another dozen of domains, run for a year then disappear again, it seems like it was not the first time they've done this. Nothing to be done, at least they didn't do this during Christmas, that would have been flaming poo material.

That's why I stay away from deals that require you to pay in advance for 12 or 24 months, even if they offer a discount, no guarantee next month you won't realize you've actually paid x10 the price.

I am also one of their victims. I had 3 masternodes on theirs VPS. 2 of them crashed almost every week. Since last December no connection possible and their website is down.
Maybe Vultr is more secure
