Good news for Bitstamp customers as they confirmed that they added a full native Segwit support.

I guess it's about time that we see exchanges supporting segwit, either the native one starting with bc1 (bech32) or 3 (P2SH nested segwit).

It only took them 2.5 years after Segwit activation to do it. Tongue

Gemini, Bitfinex, and some others have been supporting bech32 address generation since last year. It's certainly a welcome sight. Since exchanges are a huge part of the economic majority, we need them to actually use Segwit in order for the network to take full advantage of Segwit's block size increase.

When Coinbase, Binance and BitMEX finally join the party with full Segwit support, things should get pretty interesting.

Right, their competitions are years ahead of them as far as supporting native Segwit as pointed out by @squatter, so it's really time to caught up with them.

They are still on of the most recognizable exchanges out there and one of the oldest, so it's really good to hear that finally going to support it. And maybe bring back some old traders to them again with this move.

Just out of curiosity...  Why does it take way so long for some exchanges and wallet services to adopt SegWit support yet it's well know thay SegWit is inevitable?

I don't think it's technical problems that made them delay adopting this technology.
They have done a lot of updating in the codes and the biggest proof of this is their support for Lightning network[1], and they are also active in a lot of things.
There are many reasons, "not necessarily technical," to make Segwit adoption late.

Do not forget that there is nothing that compels them to adopt this technology, even if the fees are low.
