Have you ever heard of Necurs? It is said to be the largest botnet in the world, which reportedly contained a total of 9 million infected computers. It took as long as 8 years to destroy this network, and Microsoft claims to have done just that.

This bot network used a very sophisticated algorithm to create new domains, and Microsoft was able to hack that and anticipate over 6 million domains this network will create in next 25 months. They now report that domains which will prevent its operation.

Otherwise, this network connects to the largest amount of spam, crypto related ransomware, crypto mining, pump-and-dump stock scams and all the bad things that can be done with the help of the internet. There is no doubt that this bot network has caused great damage to many crypto users as well, so we can only say, well done job Microsoft - at least they do something good Wink

That's a hell of a collaboration to take down Necurs. That's also a lot of potential victims saved as a result. Too bad that they must have amassed a lot of money from victims, particularly from the top countries they targeted, before it was taken down. Kudos to Microsoft, International Police, and all the unnamed private tech companies. They did great but one important lesson here is that we shouldn't rely on tech companies for our online security.

For the first time I hear about such a network. Let’s hope that it has really been eradicated once and for all.
