I made a testing thread with some posts in Archival, but I can't delete my posts from the thread. I have to move it to Off-topic only to delete the posts and them move it back to Archival if I want to keep it for testing?
What is the reason to have the posts locked for deleting in there?
What is the best place for a testing ground threads?

Idea: just don't count posts in archival or make a subsection for testing where the posts don't count.

Found some info from theymos>
Old threads don't need to be moved to Archival. Just lock them. Archival is meant to be used by moderators in only a few rare situations. (Though I don't mind if you move your obsolete topics there if you want to for some reason.)

IMO Archival is the place where mods would move something they would otherwise delete but decide to keep for posterity, as thread may contain relevant info (ie service complaints, project accusations etc that might be worth "archiving"). Thus disabling the option to delete post from the threads moved here sounds like a good decision to me.
It allows Jr Member and above users to open threads (not sure, might be wrong regarding the rank ) and also use it as some sort of testing ground.
Personally I would make it read-only tbh and advise users to post testing threads somewhere else on a new child board in off-topic ... dunno

What is the best place for a testing ground threads?

For the moment that is the place, but not designed for that so has it's pluses and minuses.

You should be able to make threads in archival.

I think you can only delete a thread if it hasn't had any views yet so if you're planning on looking at something as a public user then you're almost definitely going to have problems with this (i.e. checking how something looks on a different device)... And someone might just immediately click it.

I don't want to delete the whole thread but to be able to delete at least the comments. I think I can delete threads in other sections even if they have views ( I'm not sure about that).
We really need a testing ground maybe under off-topic section.

I've done it many times (my own thread)
If I want to delete one of the comments, then I move the thread to another board first

I think the reason is the nature of the name. Keeping the thing in the archive means that you don't want it to be modified.
For example, some boards have been moved there due to either being inactive or stalling project development or for other reasons.
It'll be moved to Archival after a few months.
If someone wants to post something, I can sticky it.
This is a case of restoring deleted posts, as some scammers report some of their topics to hide it. delete it will make them hide the consequences of their crime.
I tagged him and restored all of his deleted posts to Archival.

I understand your point ...
The solution might not be another child board somewhere (even tho the thought crossed my mind earlier). At least imo testing threads should be temporary. Auto-deleted after 1 week or something like that. Otherwise someone would have to delete "test threads" and would cause more headaches. Would not count for post number/activity, could not be merited etc

But realistically I don't see any resources directed this way.
The "Legacy" way is the way to go imho:P

...some scammers report some of their topics to hide it. delete it will make them hide the consequences of their crime.

Yep ! Sales threads with posts showing scam proof, announcements with posts about plagiarized wp, fake team etc and many many more.

AFAIK, you can not delete your own topic regardless of the board where it has been posted.

What is the best place for a testing ground threads?
Archival (IMO) is the most suitable section. I can see many topics created there for testing purposes and hadn't been trashed and no one complained about it. Not sure what's the forum's policy regarding this matter!

I'm not saying I can delete topic/thread, I only claim that's my own threads Cheesy
and I can delete comments/replays (not topics) by moving to another board

If I want to delete one of the comments, then I move the thread to another board first
