Hello all,

I'm running Electrum 3.3.8 and it's not recognizing my coldcard (firmware 3.0.6) using Windows 7. Anyone had issues with this of late? Any advice or direction is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

1) Did it ever work?

2) Is it the mk1 coldcard or a mk2 or mk3? If it is a 2 or 3 update the firmware. If it's a mk1 DO NOT UPDATE IT THE NEWER VERSIONS ARE NOT SUPPORTED ON THE OLD HARDWARE.

3) What if anything is being displayed on the coldcard?

4) Does windows see the device?

5) Can you try or did you try a different USB cable / port?

-Dave

To troubleshoot, first check whether windows is actually recognizing the device (i.e. by looking in the hardware manager).
Depending on whether this is the case, you can slowly localize the problem (e.g. its the HW <-> Windows connection or electrum related).

On a side note.. stop using windows 7. It is an unsecure piece of sh*t.
If you care about security at least a little bit.. don't use it. That's like an open barn door with a huge sign stating vulnerable.

The update to windows 10 was free for a very long time. It might still be possible to update it for free.
If you want to continue using windows, at least update to a version with more security features which at least somewhat protect you.

If it still recognized with your PC by checking it through "Device manager" and if it's an old version of coldcard maybe the old version of coldcard doesn't support Electrum 3.3.8. Try to use the older version of Electrum you can download them from here https://download.electrum.org/ until 3.3.4.

But if it doesn't recognize with your PC/laptop through "Device manager" and it doesn't show anything on the device manager the coldcard might have a hardware issue.

Try this get a brush and lacquer flo thinner clean the USB socket and use a known working cable. If it still doesn't recognize maybe the issue is inside the coldcard device so try to disassembly the coldcard device and check the USB socket terminal clean it and resolder then try it again and hope this time it will work and recognizes with your PC/Laptop and Electrum.

Try this get a brush and lacquer flo thinner clean the USB socket and use a known working cable.

In addition to that, make sure to use an USB cable with data pins. Not your regular cheap charging cable.
An USB cable which can be used to transfer data from your mobile, does have the data pins. A 1$ charging cable, mostly doesn't.

Looks like the OP came in, posted and then left and never came back.

But, as a group, we should probably come up with a list of basic thinks to check and do with all hardware wallets that are not working. So instead of posting the same things over and over again we can just point them to the "basic diagnostic post" and then go from that point.

What does everyone think?
