Merit on bitcointalk is like karma on reddit, neither of them have benefit as you can't trade them for real money. My point was that using a spendable token to reward posts here is redundant, since in bounty threads you can do some work to get spendable tokens. Besides, enabling members to reward each other with money could open up a door to token selling where sellers pay others with these tokens, and to receive them the buyers make shitposts to allow the sellers to "reward" (actually transacting) the post with tokens, and this will increase spam here.

I think we should think more freely. all other sites also have shitpost! If bitcointalk.org's number of members, number of visitors, and recognition will increase, some risks should be taken into consideration.
