Ethereum is a very famous project and first choice for new projects – ERC 20 standard.
But Ethereum scaling is limited currently. Vitalik plans to launch Ethereum 2.0 but it is delayed again and again. It is simply very difficulty to move a whole cryptocurrency, existing for 5 years now, to a completely different chain.

New projects are being founded to solve scalability while decentralization is still supported (because decentralization is important) and solve what Ethereum also tries to solve.

A good approach is Avalanche [AVAX] founded by Professor Emin Gun Sirer of Cornell University. It will be recently launched, mainnet is expected to be live end of August.
Avalanche is an open-source platform based on a novel consensus protocol using leaderless Byzantine fault tolerance to reach consensus.
It will be used for launching highly decentralized applications and enabling almost instant payments of confirmation times of only 2 seconds.

Avalanche test net was successfully tested in June and achieved 4.5k transactions per seconds: https://medium.com/avalabs/the-denali-incentivized-testnet-recap-over-1-000-block-producing-validators-a-shoebox-node-and-3b6c95956a09

Ethereum is 5 years ahead, so no easy task for Avalanche at all. Test net has already shown it is working but can Avalanche also catch up Ethereum 5 years ahead?
What do you expect?

tough job for Avalanche to compete with Eth. maybe it is one of the promising competitors of eth but atm i dont think it will gain the same support as eth have now. lets first take a look what will happen once their mainnet is live. are they going to attract users just like when eth started? what are the benefits of using the avax platform?

Any project can do that and it's not the only avalanche but it looks like almost all of copy cat platform from ethereum platforms can do that too.

Ethereum has chosen its way to solve the scalability problem and it looks like you have know about what will be the answer to your question. Scalability is not a big problem again right now.

tough job for Avalanche to compete with Eth.
Yes, Ethereum has a huge first mover advantage and even if Ethereum 2.0 is delayed it can still stay number 2 if no project else delievers scalability.

are they going to attract users just like when eth started? what are the benefits of using the avax platform?
For projects launching on Avalanche, just like ERC-20 standard, Avalanche reviews suggestions and rewards good projects: https://www.avalabs.org/avalanche-x
Here is an example: https://medium.com/avalabs/polyient-games-to-bring-nft-focused-decentralized-exchange-to-ava-labs-avalanche-2f7c3c6e738d

For users, Avalanche has a bounty program: https://medium.com/@avalanche.hub.tutorials/avalanche-hub-tutorials-bf8ddb4f6878
In terms of key parameter compared to Ethereum, Avalanche offers for users:
- Low fees (Ethereum is currently very expensive for transfers)
- Fast confirmation times
- A capped supply like Bitcoin (Ethereum has no capped supply)

Too many projects in the past have promised to solve scalability issues, but failed. Let's see if avalanche will be different, so much hype around this project, i just hope it's worth it. If ETH 2.0 can solve the scalability issues, then it will be really cool.

I think one of the things I find most attractive about the other project is how decentralized and customizable it is. What am yet to fully understand is whether it ties its staking to consensus.
Seems to be one of the few altcoin projects that really understand satoshi vision. Just hope they continue to see all users as network participants and always carry everyone along.

I read the article and for me it's very interesting and promising and can generate new possibilities in the field of agility and security. However we can expect the application to be simple for any demand? In analyzing the market and all technological improvements are practically stopped and without application. There are several relative developments and we always have expectations but not always with application.

I am not going to buy into all the hypes around some of these new project until they indeed come on board and truly deliver sound platform that people can use. The first mover advantage enjoys by Ethereum is huge and new project need to come up with something Novel to displace or truly compete with Ethereum. Just look at EOS, TRon, Tezos, ADA etc most of them are just noise with no substance

They are just a new project and comparing the untested waters on a prominent project like eth is totally mismatched. Avalanche raised a lot of money and they should show how good their platform with those investors money at stake.

Scalability is not an easy criteria and a lot of projects planning to surpass eth with regards to this but so far all have failed. Well market price is a basis for it. Is there any contender to ethereum network? When it comes to scalability which happened to be more close on defeating them?

To be honest my hopes and expectations are still with Ethereum network and their upcoming solutions especially Eth 2.0 and I am confident that they will be able to solve all the issues currently faced by the community.
As far as Avalanche is concerned, I respect the project, the team and their approach but even for them it will not be an easy path because there are many factors involved for the acceptance of newer projects in the market.

Ethereum has a good development team and only they have to answer this question. However, for now, we need to wait for the improvements of Ethereum 2.0, which, already at the first stage, should increase the scalability of this coin to a thousand transactions per second. Only after that, after some time, it will be possible to say whether ethereum needs this Avalanche. This issue must be approached with caution, since any mistake can turn into a big vulnerability and a drop in the rating of this coin.

So far, there have been dozens of smart-contract capable blockchains that have launched with claims that they'll exceed Ethereum's throughput.

Many of these have demonstrated superior speed in test conditions, e.g. Quarkchain, Zilliqa, etc. But none of them have achieved even 10% of the success of Ethereum.

This is because it's about more than just speed. Ethereum has an absolutely massive community that believe it will achieve the scaling it needs to thrive. They're not just going to jump ship just because some newfangled altcoin can pull off 4.5k TPS in test conditions.

It would be much easier for them to work with a sidechain scaling solution than a full-fledged alternative. That's probably what will happen.

As far as i know avalanche is a separate project and it is nice to know that they are working on a high tech blockchain network but untill that develops fully I am sure ethereum network would have came up with their own eth 2.0 upgrades that will solve the scaling issues and then ethereum will truly dominate the market.

Hello, BE CAREFUL everyone!
Actually, many FAKE AVA is in circulation, don't get scammed! Original AVA will be only traded when it is officially announced from AVA LABS. A very high number of scammers is around to take advantage from AVA. Be careful!!!

Hello!

Will AVA do an Airdrop?
Yes, a big Airdrop will be hold! More information about Airdrop is written in section 4.1.1. "Token Distribution"
Link: https://info.avax.network/#economics

Allocation of Airdrop is 2.5% or 18M Avalanche.
