Are you having a problem with securing your computer? Having a secured and virus-free of a computer is really important especially if we are using our computer for some of our transactions online.

Computer viruses are always there if you are not using antivirus you wouldn't know whether you have one, so it is really advisable to install anti-virus protection on our computer or even on some of our devices.

Here are some steps to get rid of computer viruses:
1. Download and install a virus scanner - Download a virus scanner or complete internet security solution, it keeps an eye on all the files that enter your system.

2. Disconnect from internet - if you are removing virus on your computer, you should disconnect first the internet, most of the virus came from the internet.

3. Reboot your computer into safe mode - you should reboot your computer in safe mode when removing the virus.
Here are some steps to make it safe mode:
Quote
1. Turn your computer off and on again
2. When the screen lights, press F8 to bring up the ‘Advanced boot options’ menu
3. Click ‘Safe Mode with Networking’
4. Remain disconnected from the internet

4. Delete any temporary files - use Disk clean up to delete any temporary files.
Here's how to do this:
Quote
1. Click the Windows logo on the right bottom
2. Type “Temporary Files”
3. Choose “Free up disk space by deleting unnecessary files”
4. Find and select “Temporary Internet Files” in the ‘Files to delete’ Disk Cleanup list and click OK
5. Confirm “Delete Files” selection

5. Run a virus scan - Now it is time to run a virus scan using your chosen anti-virus or internet security software, the anti virus is really important to choose the best antivirus if you can.

6. Delete or quarantine the virus - If a virus is found, it may affect multiple files. Select ‘Delete’ or ‘Quarantine’ to remove the file(s) and get rid of the virus. Rescan your computer to check there are no further threats. If threats are found, quarantine or delete the files.

7. Reboot your computer - now, if you think that the virus has deleted, you can reboot your computer. Simply turn it on as you would normally. It no longer needs to be in ‘Safe Mode’.

8. Update your software, browser, and operating system - this is the very important thing, we should always update our software as well as the operating system, hose outdated software leads on having a virus.

All of those steps you have said are very helpful and that's what you have to do whenever you have already detected a virus on your PC. But, prevention is better than curing it when your PC is already infected.

I believe that browsing safely is the way to go.

Don't download files from websites that you really don't download. Most of the files are just stored on those downloading platforms and there is a high chance that it contains a virus. That's how it starts and we seem to be not aware whenever our PC got infected.

Uninstall also apps that you suspect that made your PC slower because it could be the source.

Better backup all your files and reinstall the operating system, most of the virus scanner can delete system file and the OS will become corrupted so you can't even access any of your files.SO don't take such risks.

You should switch to a better operating system, such as Linux or BSD. Then this will be a thing of the past.

The problem with malware has plagued Microsoft products since the late 80ies. It is THE reason the name McAfee has any meaning to me, it was the first tool able to remove all of then known 11 variants, before you had to get a virus removal for each virus type (Pong or Stoned, for example).

And yes, it turned out this tool and the infamous person are related.

When the 90ies and Windows 3.x then 95/98 came, things only got worse.

And it got worse as the years passed, with 2000, XP, 7, 8 and now 10. Some things never change, they would fix 10 issues, and 100 more would come.

But since the 90ies, Linux appeared. And since the 90ies, Linux rarely ever get any malware. Because they follow a proper OS design, when file ownership and permissions matter, and where official distro repositories have existed decades before certain companies had got idea of a "software shop" (or virtual desktops for that matter).

Once you switch, you can focus back to things that matter: productivity, entertainment, and not constantly repairing your perma-fragile os again and again.

Whatever time you invest learning "something different" (a decent OS), will be well paid later when you forget malware is still a thing decades later...

I dual-booted since 97, and went exclusive in 2007. I don't miss the nonsense.

linux is the answer to that.
you can stop worrying about those viruses if you will use the linux system. i have my desktop for as long as 2008 which i have installed openSuse  its more than a decade of without updates but i kept using it. browsers are outdated from firefox to palemoon. neve have to worry about viruses even after downloading a lot of porn files.

puppy linux work for old computers by the way, even the pentium 3 can still work find with such operating system

From my experience virus scanners do not help at all.
They just make the system heavier without providing any real security. Viruses - small or bigger ones - can still penetrate in your computer even if you have a virus scanner...

It's another feature of anti-virus and they just scan viruses and help you detect was specific virus you have. As for its purpose, they can help you detect it but some viruses still can't be cleaned by other anti-virus.

There's this problem that only a certain anti-virus can clean and wipe an anti-virus, understanding the logic of it makes a huge monopoly in the anti-virus market.
