My personal view of Spotify:
I have over 13,000 tracks in my Google Music account. That is hooked up to my Android (free) and even plays tracks offline. How can Spotify better this?
Spotify is a legal and convenient way of playing music, as well as sampling new music. The free version is limited, since it's only 160 kbs. Paid is 320. However most people would consider 160 enough, to sample new music, since it's instant, at the click of a mouse button. Anyway, it's better than youtube's 96-128 kbs and lower, plus it's faster. Many people also use spotify for regular listening, cause it's cheap and easy to use.
Myself I torrent all my music these days, for delicious FLAC quality. So I cancelled my paid membership, since I do not use it. However not all people bother to gather 513 gigabytes of music, as I have (just checked). Nevertheless I find myself using free spotify, to check out new music in a fast and easy way. It is also popular among my friends and it's a nice way to share music with each other. You can also see the shared playlists of your facebookfriends, currently it seems like 90 of my 209 facebookfriends have Spotify.
So to summarize, I use it cause it's a fast way to sample new music. Some people also use it cause it's easy and legal.
