Just started up with Bitcoin and did the biggest mistake one can do.

Got in touch with a random on the internet that recommended me this site, www[dot]cryptogenetic[dot]uk.

I wasn't critic enough.. It seemed promised and I hadn't any clue what kind of company it was. I never seen a cloud mining company before, just a few broker sides. The weekend I spent hours finding out how the trading worked, how to buy and sell bitcoins, where to do it and what platform to use, but the only thing I didn't do was to investigate if the company was legit. My family got involved in this too since I asked them to help me out with paying for the webside. I regret BIG TIME and now we all lost too much.

I did investigate tho after I invested the money and they asked for more. I got a feeling after talking with relatives that it was a scam. I was so convinced that this was a way to make easy money, and the hotline on the side just telling me that it was all true was all I needed to hear. I know, I can get most stupid person reward but when you are looking for a way to get out of financial unstability you get desperate and look for the most promising ways.

After looking up if this was legit I found other websides that looked exactly like the one I thought was a mining company.
www[dot]coinpayclub[dot]com/index.php
crypto-binary[dot]com/?a=home

Its easy to make a webside that look legit. If you look closer you can see that it does not reefer to any real person by searching the names that didn't lead to anyone. Email they sent wasn't signed with any name. They wanted ID and payment for using the server. Never pay for handing out identification. Is like selling yourself short on ebay. It wasn't possible to find any information on the company on the internet. When I asked all sort of question to the hotline they didn't answer specific. Like why the address on the head quarter was the same as the coinpayclub. What kind of benefit one would get to be VIP or bonafide investor as they called it. I found pictures of the person they used on other webside that had noting to do with bitcoin at all.

The reason Im writhing this is to warn other stupid people like me. NOT AND NEVER trust anyone that want to hand out free money.

How did you find out about Bitcointalk? You registered yesterday.

I did investigate tho after I invested the money
I wish you had asked the community before you gave them any money. I don't want to use the word invest, because it's not investing, it's a scam. Someone would have told you to stay away from such platforms.
Enter "site:bitcointalk.org cloud mining scam" (without the quotes) in your search engine and see how many threads discuss these things.

It’s hard to conceive that someone will believe that you’ll make 120% after 24 hours, 140% after 2 days or 300% after 24 with a VIP plan. That can only be a straight-up scam. These types of sites are created/cloned frequently, and tend to copy their modus-operandi, structure and even the set of FAQs from one to another. Create one, scam a few, close it, repeat and rinse.

How exactly did you get to know of this site (further than "got in touch with a random on the internet that recommended me this site")?
This is often something that is not detailed when we see the aftermaths, and it’s just as important to get to know, since it creates awareness on the points of contact origin.

I’m also curious how this paced so quickly: The scammers domain was registered barely ten days ago (which does not mean the site has been up for so long).

By the way, performing a quick reverse image on the alleged CEO renders (without going into investigating them any further):
-   A Mark Smith (now degraded to Investor) on a very similar look-alike site (https://www[dot]babylon[dot]co[dot]uk[dot]index.html)
-   An Ed Machen who provides a testimony on a College consulting site
-   A nameless guy at company that "builds innovative companies and disrupt markets" (he’s in the team of finance/investment).
-   Yet another sibling of the scam family of sites described in the OP (https://btc-train[dot]uk), where our guy has now regained the title and name as in the OP (RUSS MEDLIN - CEO).
-   And yet another one (https://cryptosheart[dot]com), where our CEO is now Antonio Conte, degraded to Marketing Head.
-   And again (…) another site belonging to the scam saga, where our CEO is now Antonio Conte (again), Head of Trading.

Damn, how much is this guy making? ...

Ok, I’ve had my fun. The list goes on for pages and pages of google image search results ...

I too have noticed this, even when legitimate sites get attacked with bugs or malware, the public don't get detailed briefing on exactly how those affected downloaded or installed the malware, only a surficial or general warning is given, which imo doesn't really help those who were not/could potentially be affected/attacked later on.

Op can tell us where he met this "random person", was he or she recommended to you; where on the internet did they meet: social media? (Telegram, youtube, etc) or was it just a random unsolicited pm. Mind you that another user may be allured in the same way you were and your info may help them to inspect the site more to know it's a scam.

The first rule when finding a new site is to look up and see whether the site has been recently made or not. Recently made sites are usually a warning sign already that said the site was made to SCAM people. It's rather easy as well to find it, just use simplywhois. Next is that if you invested already, and they asked for more, you better stop giving them more. Idk what kind of research you did, but you probably studied on the part of HOW mining works and the like, and not the WHAT of the site itself.

Here's the thing, never be afraid to question a company EVEN at the beginning. It's your right as a customer and their responsibility as a company to answer your questions, so probe them with that. If they didn't answer, then don't even bother no matter how good the benefits are.

When you want to share or report a suspicious websites (is born recently or simply you did not research enough about it), you should not put complete hyperlink. With hyperlink, people can click on it and visit those websites. Who knows they are phishing sites and with some threats.

To help readers be safe, you should share links responsibly by using code blocks (like I did) or like what DdmrDdmr did. People are more lazy to copy and paste or edit, so at least you can help them safe at the first step.
https://www[dot]babylon[dot]co[dot]uk[dot]index.html

Another thing: should put a warning about suspicious link "Don't click on link"
6. No linking to phishing or malware, without a warning and a valid reason. [e]

Looking up at the forum user, I noticed one thing and that is, owner of OP is a newbie and as such, I'm not surprised you got scammed. It often happens that way when you taste the shores of cryptocurrency before joining bitcointalkforum. No doubt, your use of language is exquisite and I like it, it surely tells that you would do great here and your sure to improve.
Well, scammers have always got a hunger, a taste for more. Once you fall victim once, the game is kickoff. It's always best you hold back once there is any story on first trier and don't subscribe to any fee payment almost or more than the invested capital. I mean, why should a fee even be that large don't you think...?
Your curiosity and method of verification isn't out of place, just hoped you had verified the platform sooner, it surely would have saved you a lot.

Thanks guys for the replay..! I didn't know there was guidelines for the hyperlinks and I did the edit on them. Thanks for letting me know!

I found this side when searching for forums to reach out on this but I do indeed understand that I should have done it before even thinking of putting my money into that side. I'm not close at all to be a computer engineer of any sort. I'm just an over average user.

First of all, there are many sites that do scam people this way, you will invest and you will not get your bitcoin back.

This may be a stupid question, but how does one find out when the side was made? It did bug me that it was founded 2019, but all reasoning was thrown out the window on this. Have me excused for my stupidity on this. I did search for the IP on both the mails they sent and the webside but it lead me nowhere.

The person I come in contact with was a girl on a app Amino. Its an app that uses for getting in touch with others on the same bases of interest. It just started as a normal conversation. She asked me what I did for a living and she mentioned that she was trading bitcoin with a company. That's how we ended up talking about cryptocurrency. It was weird that a company was mining for you was one of my first thought. I never heard of such concept before. I did question it out with her but the way she explained it with example from her own experience was so convincing for someone with almost zero knowledge of how to earn cryptocurrency. We kept in touch for the last week but it seemed way of that she was so interested in if I had invested and she kept on pushing. Asked if she could reefer me and asking how much I spent. I reported her on the app and the account got banned. I asked out on the hotline if they had any official company ID and they answered that they didn't understand the question. If my logic is somewhat in place about this and after this. If a company is legit you can find and trace the ID, how much they make, how is the CEO and so on. but they just dodged the question. After looking back. All this is just suspicious.

You should go to Scam accusations section and check some of the possible scams and how they look like to learn what kind of stuff to avoid, also it is good to ask here on forum about anything you are unsure of and people will chip in and help you out to discern scam from a real thing.

Use simplywhois.com. It's a site that basically gets the basic info of a site, when it was made, when it was last updated, etc. stuff like that. Whenever you're visiting any site that requires investment, or HYIPs (though tbh, any HYIPs even without looking at their site history is already a flag of a scam) you should check WHEN their site was made. If it was recent, be careful and tread carefully, if it was made a few years ago, look up its past transactions on various sites such as Reddit or here.

Additionally, don't trust anyone you meet on the internet. No matter how much background info someone gives, just don't. Do your own research, only trust yourself, and develop from there. You're dealing with money investments here so it's really difficult to trust someone, with how many greedy people are out there.

In the future, if you still doing things like that then you'll surely get scammed again. Getting involved in such sites or platform without doing investigation is a bad idea. I'm sure that due to your experiences before that you'll investigate the platform firstl and don't forget to aks questions in this forum since you found this forum.

You should investigate first the website if it was a legitimate platform for crypto investments. But what you and your family did was the reverse one. That's a frustrating loss of money since your aim is to earn money for a easy tasks for a short period of time. You could have spend more time investigating than iniciating the investment.
