Let's travel back in time with Bitcointalk forum time machine, and with entering date November 19, 2011 we are getting this result.
There was Starcraft 2 tournament with "small" rewards paid in Bitcoins, it was organized by member DeaDTerra, hosted by Dead.Gaming and sponsored by cryptoxchange.com, we can still see the winners and all 32 participants in challonge website:
https://challonge.com/sc2btc_196203

Anyone still here who earned some of that 25 Bitcoins or 55 euros at that time, and over 800k euros today?  Cheesy

Original post by evoorhees:
"esports" - a massive new industry that has sprouted up over the last couple years in the US and Europe is starting to take notice of Bitcoin.

SC2BTC.com  and Dead.Gaming are hosting the first of many Starcraft 2 tournaments with Bitcoin prize pools.

This one started at 8pm CET and is streaming now here:
http://www.twitch.tv/deadgaming

Some pretty good players I think (edit: 3 "Grandmasters" top 200 in Europe).  Here's the updating ladder:  http://challonge.com/sc2btc_196203

One reason Bitcoin will catch on here is that payments for these types of tournaments have taken sometimes months to process and pay out. Bitcoin is ideal for this market.

About 25 BTC, the prize pool is 55 euro in Bitcoins Smiley First place gets 45 euro second 10 euro and third place 5 euro in BTC Smiley

This is awesome! how'd you find this? i used to play this game back then, i even remember my tl forum acc...man, how did i miss this?  Cheesy

btw, looks like the main website from 2011 is archived, you can check it out here: https://web.archive.org/web/20111016013406/http://www.sc2btc.com/

it seems like that initiative (sponsored sc2 tourneys with btc payouts) wasn't a one time thing for them, it went on with until late 2017 i think? that's interesting because that was around the time the $20k bull run was about to reach its peak...After that the archives show url errors and then a totally different website in chinese

We will make our best to get more professional, we had a 720p HD stream last time. To stream in 1080p take a lot of expensive hardware as well as a very fast internet, we are working on getting a streamer which can provide this but as it's very few that have the requirements to stream at this quality we have not yet found anyone.
huh, i didn't know 1080p streaming wasn't feasible to many people 10 years ago. Fascinating

LOL!

I remember early nineties when I could only download 1MB/hour.  The internet didn't really exist so you would share on a friend's BBS.  They usually limited your time to 60 mins/day to be fair to everyone, so a DVD game today (4.7GB) would take over a year to get.  Streaming only existed in wealthy corporate headquarters, usually one floor to another.  Smiley

wow almost same i remember when i used to connect using my 56 kbit/s dial-up internet modem and a 800x600 picture would take ages to load that's also in parts :p

56kbps was the maximum possible speed what we used to get was just 10kbps-15kbps.

Even if they're still here, I'm sure they rather hide [if they still own some of it Cheesy] than to expose themselves as a potential target for scammers/hackers out there.

I'm surprised we haven't [yet] seen a significant amount of tournaments [especially FPS ones] that give BTCitcoins to their winners.

huh, i didn't know 1080p streaming wasn't feasible to many people 10 years ago. Fascinating
There are still places [in 2021] that HD streaming is still a dream for them, let alone the ability to stream in FHD.

There are a lot of places with really poor access.
That is what Starlink / Kuiper help to alleviate.
Problem is Kuiper has not launched yet, and Starlink despite what EM says is still a while a way from being useful.
5G can help a bit but you are still have the issue of distance. If you are miles from town very few cell companies are going to put out a tower in the middle of nowhere for you.
