I don't know if I'll find and skateboarding fans on this forum, but in case some are lurking around, have any of you seen Andy Anderson's first pro Powell-Peralta video? If not, do yourself a favor and check it out. I have been a fan of Andy's for a while and there are a bunch of his skating videos online so it's not like it's something not seen before, but he really did well on this one. Sure, I prefer the video he did with Bret Novak, I think those types of videos are more in tune with these times, but it is what it is.
https://youtu.be/gg1ZMwAAcEgIf you are familiar with Skateboarding but don't know who Andy is, he is a Powell-Peralta Pro with an obsession with wearing helmets (I approve) and mixing styles. If I had to pick a name for this I would say Streetstyle as he heavily mixes Freestyle, Street, and Transition skateboarding in a really unique way. Also, when you see him skating and hear him talk, you get strong Rodney Mullen vibes.
Now, to get more into the video, I didn't see any mindblowing tricks (if you want that, please check the Berrics video where he does a 360 Natas spin into a 50-50 rail grind to a front foot impossible), but I don't think that's the point. I think the point with Andy is his flow and his style. That kinda separates him from the others in a way. He still pushes boundaries, especially with grinds, but you would not necessarily call him a technical skater as some at the street top are right now. His style really reminds me of Mike Vallely.
And that leads me to my next question, how well would Andy do as an Olympian? He has expressed desires to represent Canada and it would have to be in the Park category as he is ranked 5th in Canada in Street rankings and second in Park (and even tho I love his skateboarding to death, I don't think he would do good against Nyjah and other modern tech skaters). I think he has a chance to medal at Park events and maybe, with time, even thrust himself in the Street category.
It's odd to write Andy Anderson and then refer to him as not such a tech skater, he is, but Street has become...well...sigma flip backside 180 lipslide, you know what I mean
What are your thoughts on Andy?
