I have a Bitcoin wallet from 2017 with what looks to be some received funds. Under "Recent Transactions", it shows a few transactions with amounts coming in in 2017 as expected. The balance for the wallet is 0.00000000 Bitcoin. Looking at the Transaction Details, I get the following information:

Status: Open for 671147 more blocks
Date: 12/24/2017 00:13
Credit: 0.10000000 BTC
Net amount: +0.10000000 BTC
Transaction ID: 1e5b8486bcf91696b879d2c10364fdeaa117b062e70259087792455e3b86dc24
Transaction total size: 522 bytes
Transaction virtual size: 522 bytes
Output index: 1

Why do these appear, but the balance in the wallet even after rescanning is still 0?

It's not a Bitcoin transaction. It's a Litecoin transaction[1]. Use Litecoin (Core) to load the wallet instead.

Use Litecoin to load the wallet instead.

I think you meant Litecoin Core which can be downloaded from https://litecoin.org/ or https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/releases
