Mining btc directly with a laptop is using a teaspoon to dig about one dozen six foot deep graves for full size coffins.

You can do it but it takes far too long.

You can't mine with RAM but you can mine with SSD (but not Bitcoin).
You can only mine altcoin with SSD but the earnings are too small(Is not worth it)

If you want to mine with bitcoin you need an ASIC hardware to be able to mine bitcoins.

When he meantions SSD he is referring to hard drive mining and I think his reference is to Burstcoin. However its been years since I last checked since it was profitable.

Right now I am pretty sure its not worth it. And the issues are this.

I don't think you will make any money with an SSD due to the lack of available space, to mine burstcoin you need Terabytes of space. Something that SSD usually lack.

Second is that you will burn out the SSD due to the write cycles. SSDs have a life cycle due to the amount of data written to it and most likely after a few weeks the SSD will be at the end of its limit.

Regarding RAM mining, as far as I know there is no such algo at the moment.

You can mine burstcoin and filecoin using harddrive or ssd and they aren't power hungry like using CPU or GPU to mine, though there will be stress on your ssd, I know someone who claims he did this alot and he use HDD the most, till date only 2% of 100% of his HDD died, don't know how true this is

Some latest models of laptops are so powerful and have so great cooling systems, that I think it's pretty normal that some people use them for mining cryptocurrency. The only bad thing, that it's unreal to upgrade them by adding some new components as much as you want, like you can do it with PC.

It’s such a waste if you will used a high end gaming laptop just to mine altcoins which Gives you a cheap profit or sometimes negative profit. Even using a mining rig will not gonna give too much profit unless you have a free electricity. I try to mine before using my gaming rig with GTX 1080Ti, it’s useless because in the long run, your rig will just gonna break and the repair cost will expensive compared on the profit that you get in mining.


Staking is the new profitable mining in altcoins IMHO.

As far as i know no SSD mining coins will be profitable right now after the electricity costs you won't earning much. I would rather suggest you to mine using GPUs because if you use GPU then you will find a lots of minable options.

Laptops are for mobility. They are less expandable, cost more, run hotter and throttle more than a desktop.
Simply put it's the wrong tool for the job. Using one for mining is just abuse.

I do not know what profit you expect from mining on a laptop, but if you are satisfied with $ 50 + / month, check the project from my signature, - Idena.io. What's interesting about it - it doesn't matter if your laptop is a new hi-end for $ 5k or a 10-year-old one worth $ 100, everyone can earn exactly the same on mining. All you need to do is turn on the node and that's it ...

i want to mine bitcoin for a profit. its a hobby but its fun aswell.

Cheap PC can be bought in a computer store near you anywhere in the world, just fine one that's close to you and about the GPU you will have to order for them online or find someone who can order for you,  there are trusted online sources you can get graphic cards from like aliexpress or ebay, make sure you know about shopping online before taking a dive, asic miners are also available on aliexpress and ebay

All altcoins that can be mine using hard disk or ssd are not Profitable anymore that's why you don't see people rushing to such coins this days, it's better to stick to normal proof of work algorithm if truly you are serious about mining, go out and get yourself a used desktop with enough pcie slots and buy graphics card starting from RX470 to RX5700XT for AMD or gtx 1060 to RTX variants for Nvidia

It sounds like you are looking for burst coins likes, I'm not sure that any new projects still use proof of capacity algorithm anymore, they were very good when they are announced but slowly they fade away, mining burst coin with 20 terabyte of HDD space won't give you good returns today, difficulty is way too high
