After building a RX580 complete rig and another with GTX1660 super I'm now looking into the bigger cards like RTX3090 and RTX3080, the only thing that's stopping me is reviews online about these big RTX cards, I heard they get too hot so I want to confirm from any users on here who really have these cards, is the claim true or false? Anyway you achieve good temp on these beasts?

Hi, I have a RTX3090 24gb with Micron memory onboard, it's doing 123mh per second on Ethereum mining and power draw is around 358- 360 watts, the temperature is 61°C and my fan settings is on 60%, it's an amazing graphic card, 61°C is cool enough for a Nvidia gpu

RYX3090 is a massive graphic cards that can get high temp is not well ventilated, the trick with nvidia gpus when mining is to always lower the core clock and memory clock using msi afterburner you will get good hashrate and also good temperature on them

If you want to buy a RTX3090 do not buy those with single fan (OEM) versions or those with two fans if available, go for better brands like msi, asus, Zotac and few others because they have better cooling tech in store

I run several 3090's and anywhere between 308 and 315W a piece and I am averaging over 120Mh/s on each.

Open air rack with fans behind the GPU's and a supplemental fan behind that pushing air away from the rig.

I never see temps over 61 degrees. If I remove the supplemental fan they run much hotter.

My advise would be as long as you have adequate cooling and the budget 3090's get it done!

Can you drop me your configurations cos my RTX 3090 is consuming over 340 watts when mining Ethereum, is there any adjustments I can do to lower the power draw? I'm also getting 120MH/S on Ethereum

RTX 3090 owner here.
The GPU itself can be cooled easily... it's the VRAM that is a problem.

I have my GPU at 50°c but the memory junction temperature at 100c

I have a custom fan blowing on the backplate so the card is not throttling.
I have 113 MH/s for 295W

Is there any relationship between memory clock and memory junction? What if you lower your memory clock and see if the memory junction temp goes lower? Honestly this is what I've been seeing online about high temp on the memory not the card itself

I know the question is about 3080 and 3090, but you are not interested in the 3060ti? They have an excellent kwh / mhs ratio and you don't have to worry about cooling issues in their case.

Windows 10, EVGA 1600W P2 powering 4 x PNY 3090's, Phoenix Miner 5.5c, using Asrock Pro BTC110+ Mobo's, 128GB SSD, with Celeron's and 8Gb Ram.

Afterburner settings are:
89-91 on Power Limit (Each card is a bit different)
+ 1020 on Memory Clock
Custom Fan Settings

That's it... 120Mhz + all day and stable on ethermine.org

Why not go for RTX3070 and RTX3060TI? They have better cooling and less heat on their memory chips unlike RTX3090, also these cards have good hashrates on Ethereum, a RTX3070 can do 60+ MHs and RTX3060Ti can do 60MH per second

I am running 4 x 3080s MSI ventus 3x @ around 95,5 mhz and the temps are around 50-53 Celsius.
On the inner cards the temps are a big higher and I bought additional fans, which I plugged to the mobo and put them infront of them, so that the memory could be a bit cooler.
Just to tell you since I got the MSIs the temps in my lviing room are like 10 Celsius higher than usual Cheesy its getting really , really hot in here

Do you get thermal throttle on 3080 MSI ventus 3x? i want to buy several 3080 as there's almost no 3060ti in my country but i read that some brand's memory temperature get too hot and thermal throttle to 60-70 MHs. I know that you can fix it by changing the thermal pads but that will be additional works and the warranty will be void if i do that so i am looking for brand that has good cooling. EVGA FTW3 is good but there's only a few stores that sell EVGA brand here.

Hi Kuroma,

no, because I am not overclocking the cards much.. their stock performance is about 89-90 and I have set the PL @ 70 and memory to +720. The cards are running stable for over a month now.
I had tried with bigger OC settings, but honestly I do not want to damage the cards.

95mhz per RTX3080 is too low, the fact is high or low hashrate won't stop the memory temp from going higher, I guess that's how the cards are design, if the high memory temp is dangerous many RTX3080 would have died right now

Well, i think i read somewhere, that if you pump up the memory high enough, this could cause damage to the GPU in the long run -> therefore I decided not to squeeze them to the max bearable level and left them at 95.5mhz.
I'll use my spare time today to research on that topic, because as I see it - 4 cards x 4.5mhz is almost as if I have added a half RX580.
