Hi,

I had my previous laptop stolen and I've just downloaded Electrum but can't set up / access my wallet.

I've selected 'wallet with two factor authentication' then I've selected 'I already have a seed'. But when I input my 12 word BIP39 seed, the only option I receive is to 'extend this seed with custom words' and I can't go any further..

I've repeated the above again but with a standard wallet which allows me to enter my seed  but when I select 'detect existing account' I receive a no existing account message..

I also have my 2FA back up code and a password..

I'm pretty sure it was electrum I had previously,

Any ideas please lovely people?  Smiley

The wallet should detect that it is a 2FA seed when you try to restore it as a normal wallet. There should be something similar to Seed Type:2FA in the space beside the options. Don't select BIP39 as the seed type.

There should not be a case where Electrum fails to detect it as a 2FA seed in the first place.

Thanks for your fast reply.

Unfortunately there are only two option for the BIP39 or to extend the seed.. Nothing about Seed type 2FA.

I must have a 2FA as I have the back up written down  Embarrassed

Electrum doesn't use BIP39 so selecting that would be incorrect in the first place and would have yield checksum:fail.

If you key your seed, it should show something like this:

The only reason why it wouldn't let you continue is probably because either it is not an Electrum seed or that there is some error in the seed phrase itself.

If you are sure that you have a BIP39 seed phrase then you most likely did not use Electrum with it on the previous laptop.

If you go to your phone's OTP app like Google Authenticator, do you see any code labeled TrustedCoin? If not, then since you said you have a 2FA code, it means it's for some other wallet software.

Do you have any idea if when did you create your Electrum 2FA wallet?

And let us know if where did you download the Electrum?

What I think is you might be using a fake Electrum or the backup seed you have is not actually for Electrum Bitcoin and it might be for altcoins like LTC Electrum or ElectrumSV.

Or maybe one of the words from your seed backup has extra character or wrong spelling. I suggest you check this link below as your reference to correct your seed backup.

So this is not an Electrum seed at all then, and therefore it cannot be a 2FA seed. The "checksum: ok" message only shows up with BIP39 seeds, as Electrum seeds instead show up with the message "Seed Type: segwit", or similar.

So, to restore this seed you need to select standard wallet, and you need to check the box marked "BIP39 seed". If, after doing that, you can find no accounts which contain coins, then it means one of two things:

1 - The first possibility is that you extended your seed phrase with a passphrase. This may be the "password" which you refer to in your first post. Try restoring the seed again, checking the "BIP39 seed" box as well as the "Extend this seed with custom words" box, entering your password, and again searching for any accounts.
2 - The second possibility is that your coins are on a derivation path which Electrum is not searching. There are a small handful of "standard" derivation paths, but there are literally trillions of possible derivation paths. You would need to know which wallet was used to create this seed so we could find out which derivation path they use.

I recently search and looking for a solution to your issue it seems that Trustedcoin has its own recovery tool for the Electrum wallet with 2FA enabled.

Can you try to use this tool below?

Just download the whole page and disconnect your Laptop/PC to the internet.
After that open that page again and paste your backup 12 words seed and let see if it will generate a wallet file.

Just tested it recently it will generate a wallet file and then open it with Electrum it should be work.

Take note the wallet file generated is not encrypted and no password but you can add a new password. Just go to wallet>password and then it will show you this

Just put your old password or a new password to encrypt the wallet file but if you are going to withdraw them all then you don't need this just make a new transaction.

Congrats, there are some inconsistencies though...
The link provided by BitMaxz is simply the same as restoring your seed phrase to Electrum and selecting "disable" when prompted what to do with '2fa'.
It won't accept BIP39 seeds (or even 2fa-SegWit) while your previous posts suggest that you have a BIP39 seed.

How did you solved the problem? This is for others who might encounter / might have encountered the same issue.
