Coinmarketcap.com has some links to information about bitcoin. Just click on Bitcoin and you should be able to see links to the white paper, block explorers, community, source code etc.

https://blockchair.com/bitcoin is OK thou.

Your preferences depend on the kind of wallet you are going to use. You can use https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet to get your choice for bitcoin.
Bitcoincore (https://bitcoincore.org) is the most secure software wallet if you plan to download the whole Bitcoin blockchain on your computer and run a full node. You can also purchase trusted hardware wallets

Greenwallet
Before it was Green address wallet then it has changed to simply named, "Green". And just for the update, it's already named "Blockstream Green" as the latest. There's no more update about Green address wallet but if you'll go and see the Blockstream Green's website, you'll see the logo of Green and it's the most updated and devs of it are continuing working on the wallet and has given noticed to their green address wallet and green users that they've already migrated to Blockstream Green.

Additionally to what others have said,  I strong suggest that you buy a hardware wallet if you are thinking about owing more than a thousand dollars and you wanna hold your bitcoins in long term.

I suggest ledger nano or trezor, they aren't expensive and cost less than 75usd.
They are compatible with electrum, which is the best desktop wallet around.

Using a hardware wallet is safer than all other methods, specifically for newbies.

About Bitcoin wallet, it depends on what kind of wallet you are looking for? If it is a mobile wallet then I use Mycelium wallet and you can download it from here - https://wallet.mycelium.com/

For recommended wallets, you can check this board - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=37.0

For fees-related information, I check mempool.space, and for Bitcoin explorer I check https://blockchair.com/bitcoin
Both these platforms are simple to comprehend.

Hmm. Those are quite interesting(and very amateur, to say the least) questions to ask from someone that has been here since 2017..

But yea, imo:

  • BlueWallet for mobile
  • Wasabi Wallet for desktop
  • Ledger as a hardware wallet

One thing I would advise you is to always download the wallet directly from developer's website. Ignore other platforms like Google Play or App store as you might get a fake wallet by mistake. Regarding the explorers, I (as many others here) personally prefer https://blockchair.com/.

Additionally to what others have said,  I strong suggest that you buy a hardware wallet if you are thinking about owing more than a thousand dollars and you wanna hold your bitcoins in long term.
Yeah hardware wallet is a convenient way to store crypto and is worth investing into, but another good option for a very long term hodl is paper wallet too. It costs nothing and if done properly it is very safe so it isa good option for someone that can't afford hardware wallet right from the beginning.

Hmm. Those are quite interesting(and very amateur, to say the least) questions to ask from someone that has been here since 2017..
When you check his post history, you realize why he is asking this "newbish" question. Despite him being member of the forum since 2017 he has been mostly active in altcoin section. In the end, it's never late to focus on bitcoin.

[General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why?

You should
  • Choose a non custodial wallet to use.
  • Verify wallet before really use it to store your bitcoin
  • People mention about Wasabi wallet, Ledger but no one has yet mentioned about Electrum wallet. If you don't care much about your privacy, you can choose this non-custodial wallet
  • Electrum
  • Never search wallet on Google Play, you will highly get faked apps

Ive been using for a long time for the bitcoin wallet is the Electrum wallet this is the most recommended too by the other users for sure also you can try with the blockchain or the blockchair for the explorer. You can check out those links given by the other members too but again be careful in downloading those applications or visiting those websites because there are a lot of phishing websites today which is a copycat of the original website. I think you can use a hardware wallet today for now I don't have yet but I'm planning to buy the ledger or trezor. If you are planning to store your seed avoid saving it online use a paper and make a duplicate on it to prevent losing your seed. Again Not your keys, not your bitcoin

You own a few altcoins, yet you asked for a bitcoin wallet?
You do realize that Bitcoin and those altcoins you are talking about are different blockchains, right?

You have been registered here since 2017 but still as naive as a newbie who got to know about crypto yesterday, I am not saying it's a crime not to know some things, but you should up your game and learn a few things about Bitcoin and other different blockchains. It would be a waste of a precious 4 years+ if you got out of here without even being able to differentiate between Bitcoin and other blockchains

First identify the altcoins you have then we should be able to recommend you the most suitable wallets to use.

If you have enough funds or you are willing to spend some bucks for a hardware wallet like Ledger Nano X/S then go for it. However, if you are short on budget -- you can just use multi asset and a non-custodial mobile wallet like Trustwallet. Both of these supports tons of altcoins.

List of supported alts.
[1] https://trustwallet.com/assets
[2] https://www.ledger.com/supported-crypto-assets

If for instance that the altcoins you have isn't supported by wallets that I have mentioned earlier, your only option is to look at their website and see which specific wallet that supports your holdings.

You asked Bitcoin wallet, bro? Now, why you tell us you have few altcoins? We are confused about this topic. By the way, you are an old member like me, you should know the best wallets for Bitcoin or altcoins. I think this topic isn't necessary to create, you can get the information from a lot of sources. Sorry mate, I am not trying to blame you but I think others also feel confused as me.

It's up to you which wallet you will use based on how much bitcoin or altcoin you will store. Trustwallet can be installed on mobile phone. I have trustwallet in my mobile phone and you can also install electrum on android phones or you can install it on your desktop. You can also use blockchain.com to see transactions. Try to search first on what kind of wallet you use.
