Hi! Yesterday I read about mining and saw nicehash. Downloaded and tried it on my GTX 1080. Got around 36 Mh/s (140w) with the pill. Looking ok. Then I thought is it not better to focus on an altcoin? I just found ravencoin and decided to mine ravencoin for a bit. With unMineable I got around 26Mh/s (95w) and because I am totally new and have no idea what I am doing, my question is; should I just use nicehash and let it do it's thing or is there any advantage to focus on a specific coin?

Thanks all, and if you have a guide somewhere where I can easily understand what I am doing that would be swell Smiley

Your best bet will be to mine Ethereum directly, as it is the most profitable.  Years ago Nicehash was good when you were new because there were so many different altcoins and profitability could change quickly.  Today though, if your card has more than 4 GB of RAM, Ethereum will be the most profitable.  I personally mine ETH directly through the Ethermine pool .  If you want to be paid in BTC though you should look into the VIABTC pool.

Mining strategy is dependent on your individual personal goals. If you are just looking to take profit immediately, then just focus on whatever coin is most profitable at the moment for your rig. A good place to determine that is:

https://whattomine.com

If you a looking to speculate, then mining a coin with a low difficulty, where you can accumulate lots of units is one strategy. Another is to mine whatever is most profitable and then convert it into whatever coin you want to speculate on. NH uses this strategy and pays out in BTC, so it's a roundabout way of accumulating small amounts of BTC by mining, since BTC is no longer minable by GPU's.

Thanks yes that was kind of my approach to it, speculate in some new altcoins that are easier to mine where I can get some volume, wait for a while and hope for the best Smiley

If nicehash is kind of doing this, but in a easier way perhaps that is the way to go.

WIll however think about ethereum directly also

my advice use manual on pool with specific coin ath biggest profit on gtx 1080, dont use nicehash they converted to btc instead you holding the coin and free to sell anytime

gtx 1080 is pretty decent card had gddr5x and ethpill should increased further, 1080 ti 50mhs+
