Community feedback about merit and those whores

They saw a pattern that the mod gives out merit whenever someone celebrates a day, so they are now trying to exploit the mods generosity (not his fault obviously). It would have been understandable if they were celebrating a day of significance like the birth of Bitcoin. But no! They are coming up with every international day, downloading a pic of the net, writing a bunch of stuff and posting it.

Anyway, since you already created this topic, I believe if he saw this he would be a little less generous than before. And I hope that he does.

Have you heard of reverse engineering? These people are doing precisely that. They try to find out where the merits are being sent by the merit sources and here they know that by Celebrating writing about the day can give them some merits, as they already saw people getting merits and everyone will want to try their luck  

Also, I don't want "Xal0lex " or any other merit source to become non-generous after reading this topic, as merit sources need to be generous by nature  

At first it looked okay. I mean people celebrate a lot of things, that's pretty common, I also did that in the past. And not just in the local sections but on the global boards as well. There are a lot of example of that. But when I saw these guys are just celebrating aka writing about just literally any days that's when it got me a little... um how do I put it, a little disappointed/frustrated I guess. Brothers day, dogs pet days? I mean seriously? I didn't even knew such days even existed (I'm serious, not joking). It was normal to the point where people used to celebrate days related to Crypto but when it got to dogs, it became a thing of ridicule.

The first time I saw this topic, yesterday, I laughed pretty hard. Then I saw it again today and laughed again.

I don't see anything wrong with these posts. People can post anything after all this a discussion forum.

The problem is these types of posts - as well as many others - are written with the sole intention of extracting merits; usually from merit sources. They are not written out of a genuine desire to contribute to the forum in any reasonable way, any more than they are written out of an actual appreciation for "Cousin's Day" or what have you.

We really need to encourage members to be more active in the community so that the community expands even more.

I agree but I'd rather attract people who have actual knowledge (or anything interesting) to contribute. Regardless of what I think, accounts are free to shitpost nothingness to their heart's content. Nobody can stop them, unless they are writing pure spam or plagiarism, of course.

Bitcointalk community is still a very small size community. Help each others, if you can not help at least do not discourage them for the sake of saving some merits.

It was much larger at one point, when it was the hub for discussion of all things Bitcoin, as well as altcoin launches & ICOs. Shitposting for merits should be discouraged, however. We should encourage people to learn and demonstrate knowledge & creativity rather than encouraging them to master the art of sucking up.

That being said, I agree with you in most of the arguments. My point is, if someone earn merit from others and if that smerits are from established members then I do not see anything wrong. After all we need the users to rank up unlike me who really not much into ranking and activities.

Sometimes a little encouragement can make a huge difference in people's behavior. Today's spammer can become a real asset for the forum tomorrow.

Whoring for merits drastically increased in our local thread. Our local friends have been celebrating almost every international day, such as Father's Day, Mother's Day, Brother's Day, and Pizza Day. Since they are getting merits regularly for celebrating these days, now they do not want to miss any international days.

@Xal0lex is the one responsible here, because out of all the posts you put in the list, he's the only one who gave merit to them.

You don't blame someone for being generous with pure intentions; those who took advantage of generosity are the ones to point fingers at.

Can't argue with that, though what I will say is that Xal0lex probably should've seen the pattern and not been so generous; it's not as if he's a newbie and hasn't seen all of the merit abuse and assorted shenanigans over the years.  

On the other hand, this is just some questionable merit-giving we're talking about and even if it were blatant abuse, there's not much that anyone's going to do about it anyway.  Theymos doesn't even care all that much about merit abuse (and I'm still waiting to hear his State-of-the-Merit-System address but am doubtful that it'll ever come).

If you don't like a post, don't merit it.

Merit is free. I can't believe we're going through our facebook likes era...

The issue isn't with the people making these posts but rather with whoever is actually giving the merits. These posts broke no rules and are actually causing no harm at all.
Could it be seen as begging for likes? Not even. Making a with to everyone there to see it is corny but not a bad thing.

If merit had no monetary incentive behind it people wouldn't do these things probably. But since it's a requirement to rank up, then why not?
Be nice, it's how merit is intended to work. Be helpful, but in the effort and get rewarded.

I have seen you mentioned that somewhere else and I remember that pretty well. You were talking about Brainboss who is a campaign manager right now. This is not his username, but his service name is Brain boss Management. His username is kinda hard, I am not surprised that you couldn’t remember his username.

I thought it was you. I might be mistaken but you somewhere wrote about it that when you registered your intention was something else then later your interest grew for Bitcoin and the technology.

There was a user I can not remember his name. He was banned for spamming but later he earned a good name. I am not regular so I can't remember the name clearly. In fact, I don't know if I will recognize the user if I see him in a discussion.

Every day brings a new opportunity to receive free merits. For some.

I will follow your suggestion as I believe the thread worked well. There is a pin-drop silence in our local thread since I created this thread. So, I believe it worked well. I will unlock this thread in the future if I see similar behaviour again.
