I'm running a RX 580 rig with six video cards on a Z270-a motherboard. Two  of the cards stopped working, so I checked each one out separately in a PC I have, and they operate and mine just fine. I also tried other power cables from my PSU that are working correctly with other cards, but the fans would not spin.

I also changed the risers for both cards. That is all I can think  of that could be causing problems. Any ideas why they are  not working? My only thought is bad risers, which I will change, but wanted to get opinions if I am missing anything.

Have you tried to connect one of these 2 cards instead of a card that is working correctly in your rig? It may be a problem with the PSU that is no longer supporting the 6 gpus simultaneously.

I did try that, and it did not help.

this is why multiple spare mobos are needed.

gpus are pretty much like unicorns very hard to find mobos are not.

if you have a secondary mobo just slap in the cards and boom you are mining

Having only one thing or equipment is always bad, spare parts are called spare for a reason, assuming you have two motherboard now you can easily go to the next MOBO for testing things out, this will make your headache goes away easily

Try to put not working one into the the riser with GPU mining.
GPU is ok, you tried that, but mostly risers are bad, or power connectors are fried.
PSU is a modular one?
How many risers conected into one wiere?
Risers conected to 12V trough MOLEX, SATA, PIN6 ? Any extenders SATA->PIN6 etc ?
Did you checked the PSU ? If it`s modular and 2 not working GPU are connceted through one cable - socket may be fried.

I understand correctly that on your PC you connected these video cards to the pci-e 16 x port and they work, but on your farm they do not want to work in the raiser, which is connected via the pci-e 1x port?
Try to connect these video cards through a raiser on your PC, I'm interested in the result.
Such cases are due to a bad raiser.

I have 1 rig like that too. but i think it is something wrong with card. Because now i changed 3rd riser. it works 1-2months then again fails, sometimes i changes slots it works again. risers which i took from it i test with another cards are working. I dissambled the card all looks fine. im not sure with that one. Im guessing it approching its life to end Smiley. I mean my card not all cards are same.

I am suffering the same with Rx 6800 Xt-s and I think I will follow the advice here to buy another board and some new risers.I think it is a driver problem but no one has find a solution as which is the best driver for this card yet so I am putting the problematic card in the Pciex 16 slot.

check the connector ends on the cables of the power supply.  You might have a bad/burnt connection.  if its a modular power supply, check both ends of the connectors.  Also check to see if the connector is deformed any.  a partially melted connector is a good sign of a hot spot, i.e. high current draw.

@alucard20724

That would be my advise too.

When i started mining long ago i overloaded the sata cable to the power supply.
Over the time this causes trouble, often ending in a damaged PSU / Sata cable.
Look for melted connection Sata / PSU, look the connection pins.

How did you connect your fans? not more than max! 2 gpus on one cable.
There are some gpus who load more than 40 Watt out of the riser. (3080)
You can check this with hwinfo.

The perfect setup for 6 GPU rig with each 2 x 8Pin is to connect them with PCI-E Risers.
So you would need a power supply with 12 8PIN for the GPUs and 6 6/8 Pin for the risers.
Total of 18 8PIN. Look for mining PSUs. These have this much.

For RX 580 video cards, 6-pin raisers are not needed, it is enough to use 4-pin raisers.
These video cards consume 110-120 watts.
The problem may be in defective raisers, but I have not received an answer to my question.
My RX 580 video cards have been working on 4 pin raisers for 5 years. RX 580 is the same as RX 480

There are few motherboards that behaves abnormal in my farm like this and I always make them work again by removing all the cards and cleaning the motherboard and also all parts like ram stick, dusts affects some mobo easily than others

I'd have to agree with philipma1957 on this one.  If the fans aren't spinning then the motherboard is likely not providing them power anymore.  This is pretty common if you aren't using powered risers.  You might have to get a new motherboard and while you're at it add in some powered risers that link directly to your PSU to help the motherboard out so that this doesn't happen again.

Remove working GPUs and connect bad GPUs using these risers and power cables. If they work fine - connect old power cables. If still work fine - connect old risers in working PCI-e slots. In such a way you will find a problem.

PS. Look at your BIOS settings may be it was reseted to default?
