Trezor One: How To Retrieve Recovery Seed from Wallet?

Hi!

How do I retrieve my recovery seed? I don't have access to my original back-up (but its safe) and need the Recovery Seed in order to update the firmware and just to have another copy.

Is there a way for me to retrieve the Seed from the old https://wallet.trezor.io/ wallet?

Have searched but not been able to find answer

No, your seed phrase is generated on your wallet and hasn't been stored on any server.

Note that you should be the only one who has access to your seed phrase. If your seed phrase is stored on a server, then there is no security. In that case, your seed phrase can be stolen by Trezor employees or be compromised by hackers.

Your device is designed to protect your digital assets, and it would make no sense for you to be able to do what you want and still be able to keep the whole thing safe. Your seed was generated and displayed only once, then you had to save it in a safe way - and it was desirable to make more than one copy and save them in different locations.

In a nutshell, you can't do what you want - you need your original backup.

Seed is encrypted in your wallet and shown to you only once. The only thing that the wallet can do is to compare your recorded seed with the saved one and report success or error.

I guess the only thing I don't get is that if someone is someone have found my trezor and have my pin code to log in, then they already have access to all the conis, so I guess I don't fully understand that from that point - you can make a back-up copy. In the Wallet Exodus for example, one can do this. "Reveal Seed"

You can generate a new (different!) seed, but keep in mind that this means basically a new wallet. If you have coins on the old wallet and the old (recovery) seed is lost, also those coins are lost.
If you don't have coins on current wallet, I also recommend you write (when you can) onto the old seed paper "no longer in use" or similar to not confuse you.

You don't need to have recovery seed for firmware update, and you can't extract seed words unless you are hacker or if you have special tools and skills for that.

Old website for wallet si not working anymore, now it is Trezor Suite and seed was never stored on that website, so you can't retrieve it like that.

There is no log in, and this is not typical website with accounts.
Best thing is to download Trezor Suite software on your computer, import seed words and add secure passphrase option that you keep in safe separate place.
Even if someone have your device and pin code, they don't know you are using one or more passphrases and can't steal your coins.

Okay friends... Thank you for all the support so far.

Let's say I want to move all the coins to another wallet, reset my Trezor, make a new wallet with a new seed and then move the coins back.

I wanted to move them to Exodus but apperently I cannot send to an address starting with bc1.

So is it best then to send to an exchange, let say Binance and then send it back once I have set up the new one?

I assume I can start the reset of the Trezor as soon as the transaction has started, ie I don't need to wait for the transaction to be complete right?

I updated Trezor firmware multiple times and I am clearly telling you that you don't need your recovery seed for that.
They are asking that just in case something goes wrong.

1. You seem to not be very clear about what you have and what you can do. I have to warn you that there's always a chance you make a mistake, or phishing/malware comes "in between" and you lose all your funds.
So if it's life changing amount, I would do all these steps only after I understand more. As long as the seed is safe (whether at hand or not), your coins are safe on that Trezor.

2. Keep in mind that as soon as you've sent the coins to an exchange or custodian, the money is in their wallet and you have to (pray) play by their rules. For example for Binance you may need to either complete KYC, either withdraw only small amounts.

3. If you really do this, I'd wait until the transaction gets at least one confirmation before the reset.

That's true to an extent, but for security reasons Trezor does not offer a feature to display your seed phrase other than when it first generates it.

If you set up a Bip39 passphrase then the trezor and the pin are still worthless to a presumed thief.  The Trezor is all open source, so theoretically someone with access to the hardware wallet could hack the device and gain access to the funds even without the pin, but a passphrase would prevent that particular attack vector.  I suggest you educate yourself on the set-up and use of the passphrase feature.

It's just a warning letting you know that if you've lost your seed phrase you will not be able to recover your funds if something goes wrong during the firmware update.  99.9% of the time the firmware updates work like a charm and your funds will be safe, but don't take that as me suggesting you ignore the warning.  If you don't have access to your seed phrase, or you feel it may have been compromised you should move your funds to another wallet, set up another seed phrase on your Trezor, write it down, store someplace safe, then move your funds back to the Trezor.

The Trezor allows you to import any Bip39 seed regardless of where it was generated.  If you've generated other seeds in the past you can import them.  You can only use one at a time, however.

NewEarthRising has not lost his seed. It's just in a different location. It's not close to him where he is now and from where he plans to do the firmware upgrade. That's the problem.

How important is it to you to have access to your coins immediately after the firmware upgrade?
In case your Trezor wallet resets itself, can you wait with the recovery until you get your hands on your seed?

If it's not that important to you to have immediate access, I would suggest you do the firmware upgrade without moving your coins elsewhere. You probably wont need the seed anyways. I think I have performed 4 or 5 firmware upgrades. After 1 of those, my device reset itself. The other 3/4 were flawless. So, it can happen occasionally.

On the other hand, if you need access to your coins immediately after the upgrade and you can't wait until you have access to your seed again, you have to create a new wallet on some other client like Electrum. Write down the seed carefully and move a little bit of your coins to it. Make sure it was received. Recover the newly created wallet from seed to ensure it recovers the correct balance and addresses and then transfer the rest. Perform the Trezor firmware upgrade and move the coins back to your hardware wallet.
