Secure : I think the issue of security  is based on the company and the site first as compared to the crypto or fiat therefore it does mean that you have to choose for yourself where you wanna gamble but most of the gambling sites use cryptocurrencies now a days and have more variety therefore people generally use cryptos.

The best method to bet on football matches is to bet only the money you can afford to lose and don't bet all your money on one game. Even with the most save bet we can manage to lose money. As for betting crypto or fiat money I don't really see a difference there. Most of the big bookmakers accept fiat money and the major crypto coins. I would say it comes down to what free money you have, if you have a lot of fiat money in your savings account I would rather use that. You can always convert your winnings into cryptos later.

It depends on the funds that you currently have.

Most people would bet using their cryptocurrencies (given that we are here in a bitcoin forum) due to the convenience and availability that it provides but I personally prefer to bet using fiat. The problem with betting cryptocurrencies is like you are betting gold- its value may increase in the near future.
