It's great to see so many places around the world that have either a Bitcoin ATM or are a merchant that deals with Bitcoin.

Link to the live map: https://coinmap.org/view/#/world/12.06080906/-85.12207031/6

For comparison, here's a map with lightning nodes, available from https://explorer.acinq.co

The company behind the Bitcoin map is called coinmap. They did make an announcement here some years ago:

A lot of the data comes from OpenStreetMap, where you can just tag any business with this code:

Key:payment

Bitcoin tagging for businesses/nodes has been discussed on the tagging mailing list but maybe not yet voted on:

Code:
payment:bitcoin=yes Bitcoin accepted as a payment method at the Point/Points of sale.
    payment:bitcoin=no Bitcoin is not accepted.
payment:bitcoin=interval Bitcoin is accepted only at certain times; the notation for opening_hours=* can be used.
payment:website:bitcoin=yes Bitcoin accepted through a business's website yes. If it is not, then choose no.

Coinatmradar is another website that provides Bitcoin ATM locations across the globe but does not provide merchant details. I also do not think they are specifically targeting Bitcoin-based retailers as I also saw hardware wallet retailers being listed on it. This is a good initiative to help anyone who is looking for more than an ATM information.

ORANGE - Legal tender
GREEN - Permissive (legal to use bitcoin)
YELLOW - Contentious (some legal restrictions on usage of bitcoin)
PINK - Contentious (interpretation of old laws, but bitcoin is not prohibited directly
RED - Hostile (full or partial prohibition)
ASH - No data

Based on the data from Wikimedia(Legality of cryptocurrency by country) this is how the map looks. Here I've added a map for comparison. Based on the map from coinmap and the above it looks legalised countries have like USA, Brazil and countries close to it have got more services and ATM in exchange for bitcoin compared to Asia.

Mostly from the African continent there is not much of data according to the map. This in my view people continue to use it unlike the government policies and there is no proper regulation for the same.

Very few countries on the map can be seen with the partial/complete banned for usage. Amongst Bolivia looks different, because surrounding every country have it legal.

I know a site that accepts payment in Bitcoin near me and it does not appear. I guess I'll have to contact them and let them know.
Maybe they haven't done an update yet and the frequency at which they update their data is not so regular maybe due to financial constraints or other concerns. I believe the more people begin to become aware of such a service and start to make patronage as well, also as competition will set in, the company will be inclined to make the frequency at which they update their data more regular to make their output more reliable.

I however find this innovation to be something that has the ability to be very successful should the mass adoption of bitcoins and cryptocurrency begin. Travellers and tourists around the world who are cryptocurrency users will find it most helpful and useful in locating trusted bitcoin merchants and bitcoin ATMs wherever they are.

The company can improve, but at the moment i think it is a case of "We did it first" that holds their concern.

Coinmap pulls most of the data from OpenStreetMap, which is like the wikipedia of maps. Anyone can edit OpenStreetMap, and set the Bitcoin Payment to yes or no.

Here's more information about how to do that: https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/29078/how-to-add-the-tag-paymentbitcoinyes-in-an-openstreetmap-editor-for-the-coinmap

I see that my country still doesn't have any Bitcoin ATM since it's not showing any sign on the map you provided. I wonder when will I gonna be tried one of those ATMs and post my experience in this community. As one of the earliest bitcoin fans in our country, I should be one of the first to try the Bitcoin ATM whenever there will be available in our city. Anyway, is this map updated? I wonder if I can check it sometimes to see if there will be finally one to try on.

I used to visit coinatmradar to follow updates about btc ATMs in some countries to satisfy the needs of some of my clients (solo campers) but really i can't telll how reliable it is. Like i can't tell how reliable this site is as well.

In all updated maps, you should see a new bitcoin ATM installed in your country. For our countries where cryptocurrencies are not yet recognized, i don't expect this improvement to happen sooner. You know how difficult to install such a service in closed financial legislations.

It's relatively updated, but there are some mistakes.

The good thing is that this map uses the data from OpenStreetMap, which you (or anyone) can update.

Here's how you can add places to the map

If each bitcoiner here keeps their local OpenStreetMap section accurate, then everyone around the world will benefit.

I don’t know what is authenticity of this but I am 100% sure there is no single bitcoin ATM in India.
Surprisingly the map and lighting nodes shows that we have ATM in Delhi region which is situated at the northern region.

There was one attempt to install the bitcoin ATM in Bengaluru which is situated to Eastern India region but it was failed attempt and it was seized on the following day of installation.

@Vasiky map is ok for that matter as it shows only legal and illegal status. With the current bill Bitcoin is approved asset taxes at 30% annually.

I also heard about that incident about Karnataka police seizing that bitcoin back in 2018 because it was setup without any permission of the authority and btc is not legal tender in India although there are now tax regulations for investors. But according to this article there are two ATM's around Delhi

Quote
India already has two Bitcoin ATMs/tellers in and around Delhi as of now. Prior to this, a Bitcoin ATM was apprehended by the Karnataka police in Bengaluru back in 2018 as it was illegal and set up without any approvals from the authorities concerned.

Information from this article : Bitcoin ATM

This graph shows the location for these Bitcoin ATM/tellers in around delhi : Delhi ATM

But don't know exactly whether it's true or not and myself also don't have experience of these ATM's.
